Khalid is my favorite artist, and I truly believe ‘American Teen’ (2017), is the album of our generation. Making this list was probably one of the hardest things I’ve had to do in a while, considering I love every song on the album…and my opinions have definitely changed, and will continue to, as I listen to him more! #LongLiveKingKhalid
15. Saved
Not really a memorable song for me. Still beautiful, in true Khalid fashion, but one that I usually skip when it comes on. It showcases his gorgeous voice, but is kind of plain otherwise. I can, however, understand the appeal for an alternative/acoustic loving audience. Gives me summer, campfire vibes.
14. Location
Unpopular opinion, but this song is probably my least favorite on the album. To be fair, it was the first one I heard, and I loved it then...but as I heard it more I liked it less. Still, whenever it comes on, I can't help but sing along, and I'm still thankful it led me to my favorite artist!
13. Young, Dumb and Broke
This is a really unique song, and one that you can't help but sing along to! It's kind of overplayed (and I understand why), but very relatable. It has a perfect beat that makes it great for summer, but definitely doesn't have the best vocals on the album. Still, an amazing edition for the radio, and a true 'summer after high school,' type of song.
12. Cold Blooded
A song that I gravitated towards right away, it's sad, but has a beat that'll stick in your head all day. Very chill, and a good study song, but doesn't really go anywhere special.
11. Winter
A really cool beat to this one, kind of an all around classic...but sounds a bit like it was made using kitchen equipment - High School Musical 2, style.
10. Hopeless
Another great song! Not very cohesive, which means that you have to listen to it a few times to really 'get the point.' Khalid's raw, raspy voice, showcased in this song, sets him apart from all the other pop stars who auto tune the hell out of their voices.
9. Coaster
One of my absolute favorites. Raw voice, beautiful message. Classic ballad with a twist. I could listen to it all day and not get tired of the emotion.
8. Let's Go
The only 'explicit' song on the album, this is an edgier side of Khalid, and I dig it. A song that seems like it would be a great club remix...get on that, @CheatCodes. ;)
7. Therapy
This one is for the heartbroken kids. It makes you contemplate whether you really need to go to therapy, because after listening you'll probably bawl your eyes out. Still has a weirdly upbeat tone, plus the voicemail at the end makes me want to hug Khalid forever (and track down the b*tch who broke his heart).
6. Another Sad Love Song
Gravitated to this song from the VERY start. It was the second song that really caught my attention, and makes me strangely sentimental. Somehow mixes sad lyrics with a upbeat enough rhythm to play in any situation.
5. American Teen
An all around feel good song that relates solely to our generation. A solid title song, it sets the vibe for the whole album. Through the sampling of his friends' singing, you feel like you're part of Khalid's inner clique. Love it.
4. 8TEEN
Probably the most relatable song on the album for me, personally. The first time I heard it, I was driving to the beach, and that 'summer' feeling will forever be imprinted in my mind along with this song. Total hit, I could listen to in 100x and still love it JUST as much!
3. Keep Me
This one is SO good. Subtly angsty/shady, and kind of makes you want to beat up the girl he's talking about. Showcases Khalid's lyricism, and pretty much sums up most people's high school experience of liking someone a little too much. Masterpiece.
2. Shot Down
Keep the tissues handy when you're listening to tis one, because Khalid's unique voice mixed with the ballad-esque lyrics and beat will make you want to eat an entire tub of Ben and Jerry's in one sitting, and probably text your ex.
1. Angels
The most gorgeous song I've probably ever heard. Has to be my number one, purely because it makes my eyes sweat PROFUSELY ever time I listen. Gives me Rihanna vibes, and showcases Khalid's raw talent. It's the perfect closing to a beautiful album...Definitely underrated. Definitely my favorite.
Some honorable mentions include Khalid's features: Silence ft. Marshamello, 1-800-273-8255 by Logic, Homemade Dynamite (Remix) by Lorde.
Peace, Love, American Teen. Forever.
