The stage was set for the biggest fight in UFC History at UFC 229 on October 6th. Everyone's minds were scrambling as the night unfolded with the spectacular return of "El Cuyuy" Tony Ferguson then the Main Event is finally up next. Conor Mcgregor makes his walk to the octagon in the first time in over 2 years as he will try to get his UFC Lightweight title back. Next comes out the undefeated, undisputed UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov and both of these fighters who hate each other so much are finally in the octagon.
It is a hectic environment, and both of these top contenders are swinging, but there is no clear advantage just yet. Conor Mcgregor continues to defend the takedowns as the fight goes on, but then something happens nobody expected Khabib cracks Conor and Mcgregor falls, but he gets back up to his fight very quickly. The world can see the exhaustion on Conor's face as the fight goes on and Khabib's pressure is just far too much to handle. By the 4th round Conor gives up his back and Khabib straps in a brutal Rear-naked Choke across the jaw of Mcgregor, and he taps out.
Everybody has been asking themselves one question, who can defeat Khabib Nurmagomedov? There has been one fighter in the UFC who loves challenges and has personally stated he loves being the first person to be able to do something. That person is arguably the greatest fighter in mix martial arts history, George St. Pierre. GSP for the past few months in different interviews has said numerous times he wants to be the first person in UFC history to win 3 different UFC titles in 3 different divisions. GSP already had the Welterweight championship in one of the greatest title runs ever. He returned last year to defeat former UFC Middleweight Champion Michael Bisping and also claimed that title but then relinquished the title due to GSP dealing with a serious condition called colitis.
George St. Pierre has had his eyes on the UFC Lightweight Championship as he was looking forward to seeing who was gonna win between former champion Conor Mcgregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov. He also mentioned numerous times at this point in the former 2 division champions life it is not about money it is all about legacy for him. The ideal thing for his legacy would be to knock out 2 birds with 1 stone. That is being the first to defeat Khabib Nurmagomedov and claiming the UFC Lightweight Championship to also become the first person to have a title in 3 different divisions.
Can GSP hold Khabib down? Or will Khabib make it look easy and effortless as he muals George St. Pierre? Nobody really knows until the fight is made and both of these gentlemen walk into the octagon. On GSP's instagram, he has been posting photos and videos of him working out and he is looking really light these days. Almost like he is weighing around 155 and just awaiting a phone call from Dana White.
