Kevin O'Leary, hit star of the ABC show Shark Tank, announced his bid for Conservative Leader of Canada in the 2019 prime minister election.
Americans know Kevin from "Shark Tank" where he adopted the nickname "Mr. Wonderful" and coined the popular phrase "You're dead to me." But not everyone knows that he is a Canadian citizen and before the US version, he was the star of the Canadian version of the show.
The similarities between him and President Trump are uncanny: both TV stars, both celebrity businessman, and both have little political experience — yet both decided to venture into politics.
O'Leary's venture for prime minister is a reflection of a growing trend towards an uneasiness from politicians' false promises. O'Leary says that he is tired of settling for "mediocrity, incompetence, and in some cases stupidity" from the current leadership in Canada.
O'Leary decided to venture into politics for many of the same reasons as Donald Trump: too much government regulation, too much taxes, too many failed promises from leadership, and a ballooning national debt.
As a Canadian, he is unhappy with how the Obama administration "screwed around" the Canadians with certain deals. He cites certain deals such as the Keystone XL Pipeline, which he said cost Canadian shareholders billions of dollars in failed initiatives.
Granted, he says the difference between Trump and him is that he is a Lebanese/Irish immigrant of Canada.
However, he recognizes that if you look around the world in places like Great Britain, Columbia, and South America, the people decided that they would like people with "execution skills" — business leaders that set goals and get them done.
