The second installment of 107.7 Alternative Buffalo's annual Kerfuffle took place at Canalaside, this past Saturday, July 25, 2015. The gates for the all day-long concert opened at 1:30 p.m. The streets surrounding the entrance were flooded with the fans of the radio station, known as the AltFam.
Usually consisting of about nine bands, Kerfuffle is a popular event for all alternative and indie music fans. So in case you missed it, or just want to relive it through some mediocre writing, here is the recap of the concert.
The lineup for the music fest included CAKE, The Airborne Toxic Event, Civil Twilight, Cold War Kids, The Gaslight Anthem, In the Valley Below, The Mowgli's, New Politics, and Saint Motel. There were a handful of differences in this year's Kerfuffle compared to last year's.
There were almost twice as many people, which means twice as much stuff. Alt Buffalo made it easier for the fans to enjoy the hot day as well! With lots of tents advertising their companies, there was a Perry's Ice Cream tent giving away free samples to help fans cool off, as well as a cool off tent!!! This was basically just a pop-up tent with misters on every corner for anyone to just walk by and feel refreshed! And trust me, it was needed.
Because there were so many people, of course there was more food, which is never a bad idea. My boyfriend and I were happy to see this change. The increase of people meant longer lines, but the people in charge, aka Alt Buffalo, stepped up once gain. Instead of a mere five or six trucks, there were food tents galore! Chinese, barbecue, Greek, pizza, a french fry tent, Philly cheesesteak, Sweet Melodies, and of course the fresh hand-squeezed lemonade stand. With all of these options along with the free Perry's, everyone was satisfied to their core.
And now for the music -- the most important part of this entire event. Personally, I had more time to prepare myself for the bands that came to last year's Kerfuffle. BUT this year's bands were still extremely entertaining, even though I didn't know all of their songs. There was a melting pot of people and fans, and therefore some people came for the experience, and others came because they were avid fans of the bands performing. Ether way, it looked like everyone was enjoying themselves. Each band played about four or five songs, until the top bands like CAKE and The Airborne Toxic Event, who played about six or seven songs.
Saint Motel rocked the house, with their top hits. "My Type" made the crowd go wild! With their fresh funky take on alternative music, everyone loved their set.
New Politics were a crowd favorite, and people couldn't stop jumping and singing along. It was great to watch them jump on stage and they filled every inch of Canalside with energy.
As the lead singer of the New Politics said, "This is what life is all about -- good company and good music."
The Mowgli's were amazing, as always. People seemed to enjoy the indie twist on the tunes they played.
The lead singer from The Gaslight Anthem, even rocked a Mister Good Bar teeshirt, and supported Buffalove!!!!
All in all, the bands that Alt Buffalo lined up were amazing and everyone couldn't help but jam out! Good food, a ton of people, and amazing music. Keep up the good work, Alt Buffalo. Can't wait for Kerfuffle Year Three, 2016.
