It’s fall, a.k.a. Cuffing Season. For those of you who aren’t familiar with the term, Urban Dictionary defines it as “during the Fall and Winter months people who would normally rather be single…find themselves along with the rest of the world desiring to be 'Cuffed' or tied down by a serious relationship. The cold weather and prolonged indoor activity causes singles to become lonely and desperate to be cuffed.”

Are you cuffed? No? Have no fear! If you’re having trouble finding someone, do not worry.

If you’ve ever seen "How I Met Your Mother," you know that finding love is hard and it tends to arrive when you’re not expecting it to. Now, even though Ted Mosby took eight years to tell his story, the majority of us can tell our love story in a sentence or two.

After asking nine people to tell me how they met the ones they love, it was evident that love comes at the most unexpected places and at the most unexpected times.

  1. “I got a job two and a half months ago at a restaurant and he’s actually my manager, and he asked me out one day and now we’re dating.” – Megan D., 20 (In a 2 week relationship)
  2. “We’ve known each other since 3rd grade. We went to school together. But, alright, well we started dating because of a drunk make out at a party. We’ve been together for 3 years.” – Andrea S., 20 (In a 3 year relationship)
  3. “I was doing a seminar in Atlanta, Georgia. I was speaking and I had to take off right after the seminar. When I did this seminar, there was this young woman sitting in the audience and it was a big audience. I saw her and I went, ‘Wow, she is beautiful.’ Afterwards she came up and talked to me and she was teaching French in Atlanta. She said, “I’m going to the art school” and she asked me about where I was teaching. I was teaching at Western Kentucky, and when she left I thought, ‘phew, I hope she never comes to my school,’ and she ended up coming to my school! She went away and came back, she was working on her Masters, and came back and so right when we got done with school, we started connecting.” – Dave L., 64 (Married 17 years)
  4. “Well, we had mutual friends, I guess. My best friend is his cousin. And she played matchmaker a little bit, like under the table. One night he asked me to come over to watch Netflix, without the ‘chill.’ Then, we started talking and now we’re dating. We have been dating for almost a year now.” – Raven F., 21 (In a 10 month relationship)
  5. “I was in Rockne’s and I was playing softball in another city and got tired of driving back and forth, so I was looking for a league in my town. So I was sitting at a bar in my town and I asked the bartender, I said “hey, how do I get on the women’s softball team?’ and he goes, ‘well I don’t have anything to do with it, but the coach is standing right over there.” So, I waltz over down to the other end of the bar, and talked to him. Kinda just told him how I wanted to play and everything. He takes my number and he doesn’t want to keep it, so he gives it to his assistant coach who never goes out to the bar. So he hands him the number and totally forgets about it. They had a girl who leads the team and they needed a player and the assistant coach kept my number and was like ‘well what about that girl we met in the bar?’ So he gave Mark my number and Mark calls me and is like ‘hey do you want to come tryout for the team?’ which was a joke in itself because it was a bar drinking softball team, but he didn’t know if I even knew how to put a mitt on. So I had to go ‘tryout’ and make the team. So he was my coach for like 2 years. And that’s how I met my husband. I met him in a bar.” – Jenny S., 58 (Married 26 years)
  6. “She was my fraternity’s coach for a philanthropy event because she was in a sorority, so that’s how we met.” – Adrian B., 22 (In a 1 year relationship)
  7. “I met him at work. My boss at the time said she knew someone that I should probably go out with, and I said that I didn’t think that I had a chance. So then I called him, and left him a message, and asked him if he wanted to go out and have a drink, and here we are.” – Lynn Z., 50 (Married 22 years)
  8. “We were working together and we started communicating. She let me use her umbrella one night and I had to return it to her, so she came over to get it. Then, after that we started hanging out and communicating more and the rest is history.” – Spencer S., 21 (In a 6 month relationship)
  9. “I was working second shift and after work on Thursday nights we would sometimes go to this bar to karaoke. My buddy wanted me to go this one night and I didn’t want to. So, my friend said I’ll flip a coin: heads you’re going, tails you can go home. He flipped the coin and was like ‘you’re coming with us’. So I go. Whatever. My friend comes up and he goes, ‘my girlfriend’s friend is over here to meet you.’ I get up and walk over to where she was and I sit down, and start talking to her, and she was not interested in talking to me at all. I mean, literally she had turned her back to me and wouldn’t talk to me. So after a while I said, ‘whatever,’ and went back to my area and sat down. Then at the end of the night, my friend comes up to me and goes, ‘we’re going back to my girlfriend’s apartment and her friend is going. She wants you to come.’ That was a lie, and I didn’t know it was a lie. I got up and went with them. I was sitting there, out of the conversation, and I saw she was wearing a crucifix, and I had some really, really bad lines. I thought it was cute but it did not go over well, and I said, ‘oh you’re catholic?’ and she’s like ‘yup!’ and she’s like all proud. I said, ‘yeah my mom’s not gonna like that.’ She gave me this look, and I don’t even know why I even said that. And yeah that’s really how we actually met.” – Jim S., 42 (Married 17 years)

18 Things I Want To Do Now That I'm 18

I'm technically an adult, so I'm legally required to live a little, right?

For the entirety of my high school career, I was always seen as the goody-two-shoes. I never got in trouble with a teacher, I kept stellar grades, and when I wasn't doing extracurricular activities, I was at home studying. Even when I did go out, it was usually with a bunch of fellow band geeks. The night would end before 11:00 PM and the only controversial activity would be a fight based on who unfairly won a round of Apples-to-Apples when someone else clearly had a better card (I promise I'm not still holding a grudge).

Now that I'm officially an adult, I want to pursue some new things. I want to experience life in a way that I never allowed myself to do prior to entering college. These are the years that I'm supposed to embark on a journey of self-discovery, so what better way to do that than to create a bucket list?

I've been super busy lately with school work, studying, etc. Besides the fact that I do nothing but AP chemistry and AP economics, I constantly think of stupid questions that are almost impossible to answer. So, maybe you could answer them for me, and if not then we can both wonder what the answers to these 15 questions could be.
