If Kent State Bars Were Ohio Colleges

Which bar are you?

Kent State University bars are one of a kind, just like the universities of Ohio. Which bar are you?

Rays

Kent State University

For obvious reasons, it’s a KSU staple. But on top of that, it’s original and laid-back. It’s been around forever and is only known for one thing: Long Islands. Just like Kent, it's also known for their illiterate stereotypes (Kent read, Kent write). The people at Ray’s are always looking to have a good time, but are chill at the same time.

Loft

Ohio State University ATI

At the Loft, you’ll find country music, pitchers, flannels and more pitchers. The kids at ATI don’t care that Loft isn’t as nice as the other bars, because they’re there to have a good time and not be judged for wearing the torn-up baseball hat to the bar. They probably spent just as much money on the juke box picking out Jason Aldeans country bar favs as they do on their beer. They end their nights screaming "Country Girl" and loving every second of it.

Zephyr

Kenyon College

These guys spend their days in the coffee shop sipping on chai and writing. They are going to spend their time on the patio talking about bands you’ve never even heard of. Getting in to Zephyr is hard sometimes, even if you are 21. Just like getting into Kenyon College, even if you have a 30 ACT score.

Water Street

The Ohio State University

Now, I’m not just saying that because this place is literally the same as Bullwinkles at OSU. But at Water Street, the only thing that matters is giant fishbowls of alcohol. Just like the only thing that matters at OSU is football. (And also alcohol.)

Brewhouse

University of Akron

Let’s be real, Brewhouse is the last place on your list to visit, and you rarely ever do. Mostly because anyone 18+ is allowed in and because it’s not even worth the walk. Kind of like how their school lets everyone in and isn’t worth the drive to the heart of Akron. Sorry, not sorry. Go Flashes. Flashes Rock, Flashes Rock, FLASHES ARE NOT BREW.

145

Ohio University

You either love this place or you hate it, just like OU. This bar is one of the few with live music, so the people here feel like they can party harder than everyone else. These guys spend half their night standing on the patio rolling their eyes at the other bars because they are the best, and no other bar is even having as close of the amount of fun that they are. For those who don’t go to OU, 145 is just a once in a while thing, just like your crazy visits to Athens are.

157 Lounge

Miami University

All you want to do is dance. Classy lunch date with sushi by day, raging dancer by night. Always looking their best, they don’t care if their heels are blistering their feet or that their Michael Kors purse has a Vodka Red Bull spilled down the side. It’s fine because the blisters will heal, the drinks will wash off, and you’ll be back at it tomorrow, and the next day. Don’t show up unless you’re wearing your Vineyard Vines button-down.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Economic Benefits of Higher Wages

Nobody deserves to be living in poverty.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.

For many undergraduates across the nation, the home stretch has begun. Only one more semester remains in our undergraduate career. Oh, the places we will go! For the majority of college seniors, this is simultaneously the best and worst year out of the past four and here’s why.

1. The classes you are taking are actually difficult.

A schedule full of easy pottery throwing and film courses is merely a myth on the average campus. With all of those prerequisites for the upper-level courses and the never-ending battle you fight each year during registration for limited class seats, senior year brings with it the ability to register for the final courses you need to fulfill your major. Yet, these are not the easy entry level courses. These are the comprehensive, end of major, capstone courses designed to apply the knowledge from all your previous courses, usually in the form of an extensive research paper or engaged learning project. The upside is you actually probably really enjoy these classes but alas there is no room for slackers here.
