But instead he f***** up. Yup, coming out the gates hot with the cursing because I am pretty triggered by this. For those of you who don't know (coincidentally you're also the people I wouldn't voluntarily associate with) Kendrick dropped an album recently, on Good Friday in fact, that album was titled DAMN. And what an album it is, filled to the brim with conscious bangers, taking rappers down a notch, and talking about some real issues. But it wasn't really a Kendrick album in the classic sense, there seems to be some disconnect between the songs and a lack of the overarching story that is so central to his albums.
This is where Kendrick could have been the greatest rapper ever. There was a theory that Kendrick was going to release a second album called NATION. on Easter Sunday. This would be significant because in the beginning of DAMN (released on Good Friday) Kendrick dies in the opening track, much like how Jesus died on Good Friday, and the release of NATION on Easter Sunday would represent the rising of the Rap Messiah Kendrick from the dead, this album would be the much more conscious album, this would be the classic Kendrick album that holds a mirror up to America. This would have been insane because the guy would have released two juggernaut albums two days apart, literally no one could ever top that. In addition to that no one would ever be able to top that sort of publicity stunt, everyone would look like a bitch, and Kendrick's position at the top would be secured forever.
You know what? Here is the full theory as told by scottvosper of Reddit
"Here me out for a second... this idea just hit me, and I love it so much that it actually scares me that it won't happen because it's so good.... kendrick will release TWO albums first one comes out on Good Friday (the day Jesus was killed) the title of this album is called DAMN. It's track listing is an anagram of the last letters spelling out "earth led 2 death" which has a meaning related to the people of earth condemning Jesus to the cross and his death. This album has a sad and depressed looking album cover and it's tracks are all bangers that complete destroy the rap industry.. turning it on its head. Kendrick goes in on everyone and basically just "crucifies" the entire game (already so much speculation on HUMBLE. in terms of his attacks on other rappers including big sean and drake)
This album has mixed reviews and thoughts by fans at first... Although the work on this LP is on a new level, and the lyrics are absolutely insane .. many people will still have question marks saying this isn't a typical kendrick album. Where's the deep meaning? This was just him making a bunch of bangers and taking people down. But then.....2 days later...
SUNDAY (Easter) The day Jesus returns from the dead.
A NEW ALBULM called: "Nation"
When put along side the other the duel album becomes "Damn Nation" aka "damnation".
This is album is much deeper, speaking the current political climate and other aspects of culture. What most people would describe as a TPAB sequel. And it represents the RESURRECTION of the new rap game.
Kendrick is our rap savior
drops the mic"
In the end, either the second album never existed, or he decided to hold on to it. Who knows, if it is meant to represent the second coming that doesn't necessarily have to be on Easter Sunday. Watch him drop NATION on some random Wednesday.
