Writing is an amazing tool to let your mind escape. People can have hard times putting the right words together in a sentence when it comes to communicating verbally, and it's easy to stutter and stumble on your words. But with journaling, you have the platform to think, create, and then put your thoughts on pages in the desired order. It's more organized and is a great hobby to invest in. Journaling is wonderful for anyone: stressed, busy, happy, sad, you name it. It's the perfect outlet to let out emotions, organize thoughts, get creative, reflect, and so much more. Being busy can let your mind neglect any personal time that everyone needs, but some sit-down time with a pen and journal can be the most therapeutic thing you can do for you and your mental health.

Keeping a journal has kept me sane and allowed me to write on a deeper and more emotional level. It's different than a finsta where you blab about how wild your weekend was and other irrelevant nonsense. It's personal and taken to a new level, regardless of what you write about, your journal is special because it's something only you have access to. You're in a judgment-free zone. Using it to write guilty confessions or embarrassing stories is healthy! Getting something off your chest and admitting is the first step (♫ and hey, you know, ain't nobody perfect ♫). The times where you're crying and panting heavily because of a tragedy, and you can't make out the right words to explain it correctly, try writing it down. You'd be amazed how much better you feel afterward.

It's also perfect for planning your future and setting goals. Something I've learned while keeping a journal is that it's the perfect tool to reminisce. As I read old entries, I'm astonished at how different things were then than they are now. Seeing how much improvement and growth that has taken place within me is the most rewarding feeling.

No matter how you choose to write in a journal, keeping one, in general, is a very valuable and precious thing to have. Having a physical representation of the life you currently live will hold more value to you in the future. You'll be able to see what experiences you went through that shaped you into who you are now, and seeing the detailed work will make it that much special. Keep a journal and use it however you please. Your future self will thank you!

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
