It’s that time of the year again when every girl (and some guys) gather around the television to watch the Victoria's Secret fashion show. Some may see the show to be negative because it glamorizes unrealistic body image and beauty, but we just can’t turn away.

But I’m here to tell you that you don’t have to have negative thoughts during this show.

Here are some tips to stay positive during the Victoria's Secret fashion show.

First things first…

Remember you are beautiful

You. Are. Beautiful. While watching the show you might start to think, “I don’t look like these girls…” I’m going to stop you right there. You are your own beauty. Who cares what society says. As long as you think you’re beautiful than nothing else matters. Bea-U-tiful. As long as you’re being you, than you’re beautiful. When you’re watching the show with your friends, remind each other that you are all beautiful. As many times as you say the models are gorgeous, tell each other twice as much!

Regular girls can be models too

We might not be models. But we can be models. The world of fashion is changing. Every day girls are becoming models, for their pure beauty and not for what society or media is telling us. All shapes and sizes are finally getting recognized for their genuine exquisiteness. Put on your best VS wear and have your on fashion show and show everyone your wings, because you are an angel of pure beauty.

Remember these girls are girls like you

These girls are regular girls just like you. Yes they may travel the world and walk the runway. But when they aren’t on the runway, they still deal with pimples, boy problems, wanting to stay in bed all day, and some even deal with their own body issues.

Don’t look at the show as a wish list

Many girls watch the show and this is what’s going through their mind:

“I wish I looked like that”

“I wish my legs were that long”

"I wish my stomach was that flat”

“I wish my hair was as shiny as hers”

And blah, blah, blah.

Don’t look at the show as a wish list. Look at it as encouragement. These girls are exuding confidence. Take that as female empowerment. I know that might be hard, seeing as all of that is right in your face in full HD, but change the way you think. Look at it as, "Wow, look how much confidence she has, you go girl. If she can strut down that runway in a thong with thousands of people staring at her, I strut down the hallways of school in those jeans I’ve been wanting wear.”

Watch the show as entertainment

Don’t sit there and compare yourself to the models. Watch it as entertainment, which is what this show is for – entertainment. The show is designed to showcase new items at Victoria Secret and to entertain us. There are performances and the girls are having fun and living their dreams. Don’t sit there and watch and compare yourself to the models. Watch it as entertainment. Have fun with it. Have a viewing party or go to one. Don’t sit there by yourself and let those negative thoughts enter your mind, be around a fun group of friends that will make you feel good about yourself.

I hope these tips help you reach the end of the runway with your own wings!

Bucket List To Live In The Now

Find excitement in your life and start exploring wherever you are right here, right now.

I was sitting at my cubicle, now that I am an adult, looking at the rain pouring down on the windowsill, bumming on life, wishing for the rain to just stop for a full day.

There are moments where we count down the hours until work is over and how many more days till the weekend, and this many weeks until something exciting. Or something like that? Well, I was bumming because my next day off from work is not until Memorial Day weekend, which is not until the end of May. And since this is my first year out of college being a “real person,” I am totally missing the winter, spring and summer breaks. I am sure all of us have felt this way even if just for a hot minute…

It's officially December. There is less than a month of 2023, and I still feel like yesterday was summer. Now comes the merriest time of the year, the Christmas season.

Everyone has been waiting for this time of year since mid-October (which is way too early, in my opinion) or before. It's a time of love, family, memory-making, and gift-giving. A lot of times when I ask friends and family what they want, I get a lot of "I don't know" or "I don't care."

If you go to or went to Kent State, then more than likely you have done or will do some of these things.

1. You’ve slipped and fallen on the ice at least once.

The winters at Kent are brutal, and while the heated sidewalks and some great snow boots are always a help, there’s no chance you won’t bust it on the ice at least once in your four plus years at school.

Christmas is literally so close. We can almost taste it. But there is just one thing standing between you and the big day: FINALS. It's not the studying, lack of sleep, last minute cram sessions or crappy food intake that is the worst... but the fact that you cannot focus because, well, CHRISTMAS. How do professors expect you to focus when Christmas is soooo soon. For all my fellow Christmas lovers out there, I feel your pain.
