-Oceans.
Our life is an ocean, and the tide will never stop from coming in. Calm one moment where you can see your own reflection. Next, the waves are so big you second guess your ability to swim and want to give up.
Do you choose to swim or do you drown?
In one moment of my life drowning looked like my only choice. But in that moment, I was brought to my knees. A presence telling me it was time to swim. At the darkest days of my life.
Driving my normal route to work,I was encountered with the song Oceans by Hillsong. Flipping through the station not even realizing I stopped on the Christian station. Thinking, "Why not, my day needs some positivity."
My soul was not prepared for what it was going to encounter listening to this song.
It was an 85-degree day, but I looked down to see goose bumps on goose bumps on my arms and legs. As the song kept playing tears and fast heart beats filled my eyes, chest, and body.
In that moment, that song saved my life.
"My feet may fail, while fear surrounds me." Your walk will not always be easy. Sometimes it will feel like your feet are not even connected to the ground and the wind could blow you away at any moment. This world is The Great Unknown with some dark turns and some long roads that do not seem worth it. But there is purpose the madness and the loud noises.
"Let me trust without borders, let me walk upon the waters." We do not always need to know the beginning and the end of our story. We do not need to know every answer to every heartbreak, struggle, or hardship we are encountered with. But we do get to choose our ending. YOU choose how you grow and move forward.
The song ended with the words
" He has never failed, and he is not starting now." You are not a failure, you know how to swim.
We wake up every morning deciding what kind of day it is going to be. Are you going to keep your eyes above the waves? Or are you going to let the water of your life engulf you? It is okay when they waves get too high because that big wave will eventually be behind you. And you will be a better swimmer because of that wave.
This song changed my life, to the point I put the words "Keep My Eyes Above The Waves" on my body forever. When someone asks me what those words mean, I am able to share the significance of how my outlook on life has been altered by this song. Not only to talk about my story but to let someone know, someone has stood where they are standing at in that very moment. Let them know that everyone has their own waves and that they have to ability to swim.
I encourage you to tune into this song. A song that can make you feel everything all at once, and bring you back to your center is worth the five minutes out of your day.
It changed my life, it might change yours.
