4 End-Of-Semester Dilemmas And How To Overcome Them
Health Aim

It's that time of the year where you seem to just hit a wall again with everything you do. There is a strain on everything from schoolwork to relationships. It is hard to imagine that the school year is coming to an end in about two weeks. How does one manage the stress? How do you cope with saying goodbye to people? How will you survive? Well, I honestly don't really have an answer for you.

It all comes down to a balancing act. With such a short amount of time left, everything seems crucial. Unfortunately, you will have to pick and choose some of your battles. Here are some potential dilemmas you may face over the next two weeks and how you can best approach them.

Netflix or Work?

Well with finals upon us, the obvious answer is work. It is important you prioritize getting those assignments done before partaking in leisurely activities. But, Netflix can also be your best friend. Taking a break and looking away form the books is actually helpful and can give your mind the chance to refresh so you can kill it when you get back to work. Just try not to choose a binge-worthy show.

Chipotle or Panera?

If I'm having a bad day, I'm all for indulging in chips and guac. But, there are better options for you. If possible, try grabbing a salad from Panera. They have high-protein options that will give you that little extra boost you may need to power through your work.

Starbucks or Dunkin?

Sure, it is super easy to use up your food points on your ID at Dunkin, but is it really better for you? Duncan coffees are loaded with sugar that will only cause you to crash. Try getting a normal iced coffee at Starbucks. If you ask for cream and sugar, they will add it for you but otherwise you can go to the counter and make it yourself. This way, you are ensuring that you are not overloading your drink with sugar and you spent about the same amount as Dunkin!

Stay in or go out?

This is probably the hardest decision of them all. You are so worn out of shape from studying so you want to catch up on sleep but you also just want to celebrate the week coming to an end. In this situation, you can do a little bit of both in moderation. Go out for a little bit and dance away the stress, but make sure you are home at a reasonable time. When you go to bed, set an alarm for around 10 am. This way, you get to sleep in a little bit but you also have plenty of time left in the day to get things done.

Obviously, we have a lot of decisions to make at this time of year and it can get scary. But push through and know that you are not the only one in this battle. Rest up and kill it on those finals!

In case you're unaware, "resting bitch face" is the term used to describe when a person's natural, expressionless face makes it look like they are mad at the world. Whether they are walking down the street or simply spacing out thinking about what to eat for dinner, it's very easy for others to assume that this person is either upset or mad at them. Because of this, those of us with Resting Bitch Face (RBF), and especially us women, have all experienced many of the same situations and conversations, including:

We've all had a crush before. Whether it leads to something or nothing, the process has all been the same. The awkward feelings, the stalking, and the stress of trying to keep this huge secret. The feeling of becoming a total spazz is something that cannot be avoided, and the most spazzy family that can relate to this feeling is the Belcher's.

At the tender age of 18, we are bestowed with the title of “adult.” For 17 years, we live under the rules and guidelines of our parents, school, and government, and to stray from any of those rules or guidelines marks us as a rebel. At 18, though, we must choose which college we want to go to or what career we want. We are allowed and encouraged to vote. We can buy lottery tickets and cigarettes. We can drop out of school, leave our household, and do other "adult" things. At 18, we start down a path of thinking for ourselves, when for the entirety of our lives other institutions have been mandated to think and do for us.

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.
