5 Ways To Keep Your Sanity During Midterms

Let's be real, midterms are stressful and half the time your professors don't even tell you that it is a midterm. Finally realizing that we as students all need to kick it into gear to get the grade we want for the semester makes us a little crazy as a whole. We tend to rush through all the projects and studying to just say a little prayer before we take the test or turn it in and hope for the absolute best considering we probably feel like we haven't learned much this far into the semester.

So, before you start to freak out about your grades, take a deep breath and try some of these tips to help you make it through this crazy time.

1. It helps to spread out your studying instead of cramming it all into one sitting

As college students, we all have a habit of waiting until the very last moment to cram in all the knowledge we can right before a big test, but it is proven that cramming actually doesn't help you retain the most information that you can. If you spread out your studying in increments before the test, you don't have to worry about not getting all the information in your head.

2. Studying before you go to bed helps you retain information better

Contrary to some belief, it is actually found to be very beneficial to study right before you go to sleep. Your brain is able to process the information while it is resting and this allows for you to really feel like you know what you studied. Who knows, maybe if you study your math equations right before bedtime, everything will add up.

3. Take breaks and take care of your body

Make sure that you are really taking care of yourself. Stay hydrated, eat good food, possibly even treat yourself to a face mask. Taking a 15-minute break between studying lets your mind process what it has already learned and prepared it for a new topic.

4. Get as much rest as possible the night before

They always told us to sleep a lot the night before our standardized tests, but the same idea qualifies for now as well! If you don't get enough sleep, there are many bad things that can happen to you. For instance, you could sleep past your alarms and not wake up for class, or you could keep dozing off during your exam, both of which will leave you in a bad mood and with a not so satisfactory grade.

5. Breathe through it because you know more than you think you do

Don't forget to breathe through this. You've been learning all semester and this is just going to be a refresher for you. If you have confidence, you will get good results and be proud of yourself for all the work that you've done.

I wish you all good luck with your midterms! I know you can do this, and don't forget to have faith in yourself as well.

It's officially December. There is less than a month of 2024, and I still feel like yesterday was summer. Now comes the merriest time of the year, the Christmas season.

Everyone has been waiting for this time of year since mid-October (which is way too early, in my opinion) or before. It's a time of love, family, memory-making, and gift-giving. A lot of times when I ask friends and family what they want, I get a lot of "I don't know" or "I don't care."

mu bucket list

I was sitting at my cubicle, now that I am an adult, looking at the rain pouring down on the windowsill, bumming on life, wishing for the rain to just stop for a full day.

There are moments where we count down the hours until work is over and how many more days till the weekend, and this many weeks until something exciting. Or something like that? Well, I was bumming because my next day off from work is not until Memorial Day weekend, which is not until the end of May. And since this is my first year out of college being a “real person,” I am totally missing the winter, spring and summer breaks. I am sure all of us have felt this way even if just for a hot minute…
