As college students, we tend to lose sight on what is truly important; our faith.
When the workload gets too tough, relationships are going everywhere but right, and you feel like you are ready to completely give up, remember why you started. The man upstairs does not put people in situations he knows they can't handle. Most college students will find themselves at one point in their educational careers extremely sad or depressed. What the time management classes and brochures don't tell us to do is remember to keep God first. Here are three helpful ways in keeping God first.
1. Don't be afraid to call on him.
No one was intended to do everything on their own. It is truly impossible to believe that you are strong enough to handle every obstacle thrown at you without a little help. That does mean there is a life "cheat code" lying around, or that you are supposed to be weak, only rely on help, and never try at all. It means that God is wanting you to call on him. Being prideful is a terrible characteristic and its a sin, but everyone is guilty of it at some point in their lives. Don't be afraid or think you're just too good to ask God for help. He patiently waits to be called on and accepts our prayers and problems with open arms.
2. Make time for God.
Did you make time to do your math homework last night? Did you make time to plan that date with that girl or guy? I'm sure you made time to attend parties every weekend. However, did you make time to sit down and talk to God? Did you make time to thank him for that "A" you made on that math homework? Or the nice time you had on your date? Or that you made it home safely after a crazy party night? Make time to sit down, take a pause in your thoughts, and hold a conversation with God. Let him know what's going on in your life as if he doesn't already know. Allow time in your schedule for him because he always has time in his for you.
3. Pray. Pray. Pray.
There are times where people will only call on God and pray when they need something. There are those who will only pray on Sundays and then there are some who will just go weeks and forget they have a God who is eager to hear from them. Everyone is guilty of forgetting a day to pray. Many are guilty of not praying and thanking God when are lives are going great, but never forget to break down to him when life isn't so great. Believers have to remember that we have a jealous God. When we find ourselves praising everything else but him sometimes and that is when God wants our attention the most. The happiness in your life doesn't exist without God. We have to remember to pray and thank him for it.
No one likes to have faith thrown in their faces. No one is saying feel bad because you realize you haven't been keeping God first. One of the great blessings God has given us is to make our own choices and granting us with new days. Each day is a new day to make God a priority. Make it a choice in your life to become closer to God and put him first. That is praying more, talking to God and calling on him for anything and everything
