Tips for back to school.

Keep Calm And Go To Class

"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world."

- Nelson Mandela

These past few summers in college never seem long enough for my taste. This summer, the one going into my senior year, was definitely the shortest felt. Returning to school is always bittersweet. As young adults, we never really know how to react to a new school beginning. On the one hand we are excited to be back on campus, hangout with friends, and attend fun filled events. On the other, we dread the traffic as commuters, the hectic parking situation, and the group projects. However, in all it's mixture, school is cool. In honor of the first week going back to school, I have compiled a list of tips, to push through and stay motivated, for a new school term.

1. Balance your time.

It is not all schoolwork. Yes, syllabus week makes it seem so, and we hate it. Make time for assignments, they are indeed your number one priority. But also squeeze in a stress free, girls night out. This way you reward yourself for a long week of learning about the Civil War.

2. Organization is key.

Invest in a planner and write it all down. You'll be glad you turned in that paper on, why sugar is bad for you, on time. Folders are important too. You do not want your backpack filled with random loose leaf papers from last semester.

3. Make connections.

Go ahead, talk to the boy that sits in front of you in lab. In college, you get different people in different classes. You might want to spark a conversation with at least one person in each class. Guaranteed group project partners and study buddies. Think about it, the more classmates you know, the more the better, and the easier the answers to the math homework will be.

4. Get some sleep.

Rest time is pivotal to your health and sanity especially as a college student. Go to bed early and build up energy for the busy day ahead. Go to bed late and regret it in the morning. Plus, you do not want to be that kid in class that falls asleep mid lecture.

5. Get involved.

It's not all about schoolwork. Most campuses have over 20 sports teams and clubs to choose from. They want their students to get a break from the schoolwork. Join the Greek community, attend a Fashion Club meeting, participate in a soccer tournament held on campus. Just do it, get distracted, and have fun.

6. Work hard and motivate yourself.

You are your own motivator. Tell yourself you will get through the 35 page paper. Make yourself proud and pat yourself on the back once you complete it.

Think about your future. Think about success. Think about making your parents proud. Think about making yourself proud.

You can do this, make this school year the best yet!

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
