Believing in God can be hard. It can be even harder when we look at the world around us, either in a positive or negative sense. On one hand, it can be discouraging when something happens that hurts us, and can cause us to question the existence of a higher being. On the other, when the world constantly tells us that there is no God, or that there is no need for a God, then we are often left wondering if God is really that powerful. In other words, we are fed a bunch of stuff that causes us to quit believing.
A pew research poll found that as of 2013, only 68% of Millennials say that they have faith in God. While that sounds like a lot, that number had decreased 15% since 2007. And the trend has remained constant. People are loosing faith.
Perhaps you are reading this having never had faith, or have lost faith, or are loosing faith. Or perhaps you have realized that Christianity does not align with your beliefs. The truth is that I could write down verse after verse to try to convince you that there is a God, and that what you are doing is absolutely wrong, but believe it or not, that is not how Christians are called to spread the gospel.
I believe that there is a God because of what he has done in my life. I cannot attribute the way he has provided for me to chance. He has been there when I was hurting and guided me out of dark places. I have not been able to find the happiness I have in Christ in anything else. And I am constantly reminded of that. Every time I look away from God, He has this way of bringing me back to Him.
You may not realize this, but as messed up as you might be, He feels the same way about you. God wants you to look His way. Even when you are at your lowest, He wants to lift you up to your highest. Why do Millennials need to keep believing in God? Because it is becoming more and more needed in this world. We are becoming desensitized; what used to hurt us no longer does, or what made us think doesn't seem all that important any more. We see pain and instead of doing everything we can to help those that are hurting, we just thank God that its not us. When we hurt, we lash out, or hold it in, and eventually it causes us to do something terrible.
Imagine this: if God really does provide for us, what would the world look like if we fought for God as much as we fight for our presidential candidate, or marijuana legalization, or free school. Is all of that more important than God? No. God does provide for us, and He wants to provide for you as well. If you are not a believer, consider finding someone who does believe in God and ask questions. Even if you are completely anti God, ask questions with the intention to find answers. I guarantee you will. And if you are a believer, give answers. If God is present in your life, you have the answers. He will provide them when the time comes.
Perhaps the most well known verse sums it up so perfectly:
For God so loved the world,
