7 Ways To Keep Your 2019 Mentality

In This Article:

We are officially heading into the third month of 2019, and most people are scared that this year is already not shaping up to what it was supposed to be. But no matter the month, it's never really too late to turn it around. My personal mentality is set so that this is "the year of me." The year to take control of your life and not let anything get in the way. And here's a few ways how:

1. Cut out toxic people.

Don't like them? Cut them out. Always rude to you? Cut them out. Too entitled to be around? You got it, cut them out. Toxic people can bring down your own positive mindset and distract you from your true goals and how awesome you are. It's finally time to let go of people who only bring you down.

2. Start taking care of yourself.

This is always the hardest part. Taking care of yourself doesn't mean you have to be Instagram model fit. This can be going to the gym a couple days a week, introducing more fruit into your diet, or even cutting down on caffeine and alcohol. This year is all about you— so start the changes small and at a comfort level until you can build to large scale better health changes.

3. Take time to do the things you love.

Sometimes we get so wrapped up in our work, school, friends, and organizations that we forget to breathe for 20 seconds. It's okay to say no to that extra responsibility people want you to take on, and just take an hour for yourself. You deserve the best, so you can feel the best.

4. Surround yourself by people you love.

It's so easy to be swept away into the big groups of people when everyone is hanging out. But ask yourself, "do I love this?" Life feels better when you're around people you love and trust, so don't worry about fitting in with the large crowd and start spending time with your crowd.

5. Eat three meals a day.

You know how you always feel better when you're full? So stay full! Its about time we stop skipping breakfast and start planning out when to eat meals. No one else should fall victim to our hangry-ness, especially ourselves.

6. Celebrate every moment.

Whether you just got an A on an exam or landed your dream internship, it's important to properly celebrate. You deserve to be celebrated for all of your accomplishments because this is your year.

7. Do the things you keep saying you'll do but never do.

For me, its buying cute outfits I see on preppy Instagram accounts, for you it might be hiking, calling a friend, or anything else. Keep yourself happy and give in a little sometimes. You deserve it.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
