If you have ever been to a concert in Kansas City, Missouri (which, lets be real, every Kansas City concert is in KCMO), you may have heard the artist yell "Hello Kansas!", to which the audience promptly corrects that they are, in fact, in Missouri.
Many people who are not from Kansas City may not realize that Kansas City is in both Kansas and Missouri. They also may not realize that every good thing about Kansas City is actually on the Missouri side. So when you hear of Kansas City and all of its attractions, they are most likely all located in Missouri, including the following.
The Nelson-Atkins
Yes, The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art and their famous shuttle-cocks are in Missouri NOT Kansas.
Worlds of Fun
Listen, not every amusement park in Kansas City is in Missouri, but Worlds of Fun definitely is, and it is definitely a world of fun.
The Kansas City Zoo
The Zoo? Yeah, also in Missouri.
Kansas City Union Station
The famous Union Station, home to the Maker Faire, the Royals Parade, Science City, and a general city aesthetic. Arguably the most Kansas City thing in Kansas City. It's also in Missouri.
The Country Club Plaza
The Plaza in Kansas City has almost every store and restaurant you could imagine. It is a fun place to shop, dine, or even just walk around. It is known for its beautiful lights at night and its incredible Christmas light setup in the winter. And it is in Missouri.
The National WWI Museum
The famous World War I Museum that overlooks the entire city is also located in Missouri.
The Rivermarket
If you have been to Kansas City in the summer, there is a good chance someone has told you to stop by the Rivermarket. Here, you will find fresh produce, flowers, baked goods, restaurants, and many other fun things to purchase. The beautiful Rivermarket is located in, you guessed it, Missouri.
American Jazz Museum & Negro League Baseball Museum
On 18th and Vine, in Missouri, you will find the American Jazz Museum as well as the Negro League Baseball Museum, which plays tribute to Jackie Robinson, who originally played for the Kansas City Monarchs.
Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts
The Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts, whose architecture is somewhat reminiscent of the Sydney Opera House, can also be found in Missouri along with many other fantastic theatres and music venues.
The Harry S. Truman Sports Complex
Home to our beloved Kansas City Royals baseball team and Kansas City Chiefs football team is our Kauffman Stadium, also known as "The K", and Arrowhead Stadium, which has been labeled the loudest NFL stadium in the world. You get it, it's also in Missouri.
Myself and many others who live on the western side of Missouri consider Kansas City to be our home, and we love letting everyone know why KCMO is so much better than KCK. The sheer amount of things to do paired with the aesthetic of the city is what makes KCMO the heart of Kansas City.
So the next time you're in Kansas City, I hope you decide to remain on the Missouri side, home to all the best Kansas City has to offer.
