Caution: spoiler alert.
So, for all you "Hunger Games" fans, we can all agree that Katniss and Peeta have by far the strangest, yet best, love story of those seen in the past few years. They won the Hunger Games together, became lovers and engaged, then Snow tortured Peeta into believing that Katniss was the enemy. From surviving together, to Peeta trying to kill Katniss, we have all held on to hope for a happy ending between the two.
"Mocking Jay Part II" picks back up after the attack where Peeta choked out Katniss. Our hearts broke when Peeta attempted to do so, but more so when he was haunted so much that he truly believed Katniss had to be killed. Watching his struggles through what looked closely related to post-traumatic stress disorder, I – and I’m sure many women everywhere – felt compelled to save him.
So Peeta’s memories are coming back and he is having trouble deciphering which are real and which are not. He asks Katniss: “Your favorite color is green; real or not real?” Real. And Katniss replies and said, "Your favorite color is orange, but not bright orange. Soft like the sunset.” OK! If this isn’t meant to be, I don’t know what is!
Hope was restored when during one of his mental breakdowns and wanting to give up, Katniss emotionally kissed Peeta and said, “Stay with me.” “Always.” Peeta replied.
After a bit of information and clarity on who sent for the bombs that resulted in killing Prim, Katniss shoots and kills Coin in front of the entire capital instead of killing Snow. Katniss is exiled out of the capital and back to district 12 until further notice. Katniss spends a good deal of time alone and finally allows herself to grieve her sister.
We all cried with her when she broke down yelling at Prim’s cat. One day after hunting, Katniss is walking back home and sees Peeta gardening. Peeta came home! He has returned home with a primrose. Is the old Peeta finally back? One night, Katniss gets out of her bed and gets into Peeta’s. He asks, “You love me, real or not real?” Real.
The screen goes dark and reappears a few years later into the story line. In the near distance, Peeta is playing with a two or three-year-old mini-version of himself, while Katniss is watching holding their second baby. It is the happily ever after we have been wanting – yay! However, the shot focuses on the baby and – bam! An Asian baby.
Anyone else notice this?! Anyone else wondering how and why their first child is a blond haired little boy and their second baby is Asian? Either Katniss has some explaining to do, or this baby is clearly Glenn and Maggie’s (Yes, that’s a "Walking Dead" reference.)
