Dissecting Kanye West's Controversial Lyrics About Taylor Swift

Although it was short-lived, it seemed like Kanye and Taylor were on perfectly good terms. They actually seemed to be…friends? Kanye was saying nice things about Taylor and vice versa, and Taylor was even spotted wearing her own pair of Yeezy sneakers out and about.

Now, I’m sure by now we all know about the famous incident that made the world turn on Kanye West. At the 2009 VMA’s, Kanye interrupted Taylor’s acceptance speech for best video. He grabbed the microphone out of her hands and said the famous words “Yo Taylor…imma let you finish but Beyonce had one of the best videos of all time.”

Watch the video here.

Since that moment, there has always been an obvious but unspoken dislike between Kanye and Taylor. Taylor, however, wrote a song titled Innocent about the incident, and released it on her album entitled Speak Now. Some of the lyrics include “Who you are is not what you did, you’re still an innocent,” and “32 is still growing up now.”

Listen to the song here.

However, the two seemed to have made up for good in 2015. Swift jokingly made fun of the situation when she presented an award to West. Kanye sent Taylor beautiful flowers. The two were spotted at dinner. All seemed to be resolved.

Kanye West is known for his rants. Whether it’s about Nike or the award show systems, he always has something to say. Some people call him a genius, others call him rude and obnoxious. Whatever your opinion is about him, he certainly gained a ton of them the other day after he performed his entire album T.L.O.P. at a special show at Madison Square Garden. The song that got the most attention was entitled “Famous.” Some of the lyrics include "I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex / Why, I made that b**** famous / God damn / I made that b**** famous.”

Obviously, many people have a problem with these derogatory lyrics, including myself. Of course, I’m a little bias because I’m a hardcore Swiftie, but the lyrics are really rude and demeaning to women in general.

Many of Swift’s famous friends had stuff to say about the rapper’s harsh lyrics.

Selena Gomez talked to SiriusXM Hits 1 about the scandal. "Everybody has their own opinion. At the end of the day, you can just do what you do. She's killing it and she kind of always has been.” It’s no surprise that Gomez is Team Taylor in this situation.

Model Gigi Hadid and close friend of Swift tweeted about the issue. Hadid attended West’s album debut showcase at MSG, but she stated that her attendance somewhere doesn’t mean that she agrees with everything that’s being said.

Karlie Kloss, another one of Swift’s BFFs, was also in attendance at West’s event. Kloss posted a picture of herself in a pair of Yeezy sneakers and later deleted the picture entirely.

Austin Swift, Taylor’s brother, posted a hilarious Instagram video of himself getting a “head start on his spring cleaning” and throwing his own pair of Yeezy sneakers in the trash.

However, despite all of this, Kanye took to twitter after getting backlash for his lyrics by saying that he “called Taylor” and she “thought it was funny.” He later went on to say that she actually “came up with the idea” when she told a mutual friend that Kanye actually did in fact “make her famous.”

Read West's entire rant on his Twitter page.

Taylor has yet to make a comment herself, but her rep made a statement to E! News on Thursday night stating that Kanye did not call for her approval, but instead to ask Taylor to release his single 'Famous' on her Twitter account. She declined and cautioned him that releasing a song with such a strong misogynistic message was a bad idea.“Taylor was never made aware of the actual lyric, ‘I made that b**** famous.’”

So what do you think? Is Kanye a genius? Do you feel sorry for Taylor? Is #KanTay done for good?

The Grammy's are this Monday and both superstars will be in attendance, so who know's what might happen. It is live TV after all!

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."
