In a recent interview with TMZ, Kanye West said what is probably the most insane thing to ever come out of his mouth. Ignoring 400 years of historically accurate information he has concluded that “Slavery was a choice.” Black America was not having it. Open letters to the rapper began flooding social media within hours of the interview, and black twitter exploded with the sarcastic hashtag #IfSlaveryWasAChoice. In usual twitter fashion, these tweets humorously point out the flaws in West's logic. Explaining exactly why West’s comments seem to have been pulled directly from his rear end:
If slavery really was a choice why did it last so long?
Because clearly if Slavery had been a choice we’d have put in our notice way before 400 years had come and gone.
Or even left without a notice.
I promise you we were not worried about references.
Movie titles will clearly need to be re-written.
Because clearly, according to Kanye, this is inaccurate.
Being on a slave ship was apparently more like a cruise?
Because being packed head to foot for months on end is obviously something we would have chosen to do.
Since slaves weren't paid I guess Kanye would call that volunteer work.
Viola isn't having it and neither am I.
Kanye, please, think before you speak. Your fan base is the people that supported you and built you. They're from Chicago and supported you since the beginning. They stood by you through all the other outrageous things you've said because you're "genius." You've slapped them in the face with this one. Please, get it together.
