I know you've heard about it, seen the video, read the comments, so here it is.
Here's the breakdown.
Recently, the legendary Kanye West appeared on the "The Ellen Degeneres Show." Ellen started out asking him about his Twitter, due to recent rumors that his wife, Kim Kardashian, wants to set up a board of directors to overlook his tweets before he tweets them. Well, the audience at this point, knew the show was about to be a little rocky. Kanye replied with a smirk, somewhat reaping us for his next comment, "What's the point of thinking." Oh, how deep.
Basically, this entire interview was himself on Twitter except without the 140 character limitation.
As a person who is always down for some good Kanye-ism, I still believe this may be his last daytime television appearance. This family is everywhere, so who else would this generation turn to for life lessons considering we can't change the TV channel from 'E!'. Watching the video can be overwhelming, which is why I've broken down the most important (and less confusing) parts of the Yeezus rant.
1. Giving back is important.
Kanye means well. He really, truly, does. Everything he says, no matter how outlandish it sounds, all relates back to him wanting to change the world for the better. Even now, $53 million in debt, he's still a superstar and willing to lend a helping hand. He claims that he has ideas that “could make the human race existence within our 100 years better -- period.”
2. Practice makes perfect.
You've heard this saying since you were a child. It still stand true today. The more something is done, the better it becomes. Ellen made a comment of Kim Kardashian not wanting any more children right now and Kanye replied with "I'm okay with practicing for right now." A little humor never hurt anybody.
3. It's OK to ask for help.
Even if you're asking the founder of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg, through multiple angry tweets on Twitter, Facebook's biggest competitor. Because, Zuckerberg definitely should've agreed to help after all that.
4. Where you come from is something to be proud of.
Kanye described how his father was living in a homeless shelter less than five years ago and how his mother was the first African-American lady to be head of the English Department at Chicago State University. He states that "I was raised to do something -- to make a difference".
5. Have no regrets in life.
Ellen asked at the beginning, before Kanye's emotions hit the fan, "have you regretted anything you've ever tweeted?" and he replied with "Nope!"
That's a lesson for us all. Be confident, but not cocky.
6. Being popular isn't everything.
Kanye stated that he makes music because it's a form of art. He wants to connect with his audience. It's not about the fame or fortune (he had). It's not about being liked. Kanye believes he is making contributions to society through his compositions, like Shakespeare or Walt Disney.
7. "Put some dope sh*t in it."
Nobody knows what it means, but it's provocative; it gets the people going.
8. Excel in more than one thing, step out of your comfort zone.
"We're in a renaissance period," meaning this is an evolutionary time for people to have more than one profession;so, surprise people with your talents, and make a difference. Work hard in everything you do. Kanye transitioned from music to fashion with a large amount of passion for both.
9. Don't let anything stop you from achieving your goals.
"Think about how many times you've been blocked from being able to excel." He used the racial imbalance of the Oscars as an example, saying "he didn't take it as a joke!" Nothing is more important than your happiness. You deserve to reach every goal you've ever dreamed about.
10. As Ellen would say, "Be kind to one another."
We all know Kanye stands for equality. In case you've forgotten, Kanye says, “We’re a blip in the existence of the universe!” We have to work together to eliminate inequalities and injustices like racism, sexism, bullying, and classism. Being a self-proclaimed philosopher -- and, unrelated, "the Michael Jackson of apparel," Kanye declares. “I see the importance and the value of everyone being able to experience a more beautiful life.”
That is what he's fighting for.
"Sorry for the realness." Kanye out.
