Although I have never been to Kansas City, Missouri before, from what I have seen by watching the fans there, I think an NBA team would fit right in. For example, when the Royals made it to the playoffs back in 2014. Even though the Royals were a wildcard team, Kauffman Stadium was sold out for every game and every fan in the stadium was wearing Royal blue. When the Royals lost Game 7 of the 2014 World Series to the San Francisco Giants, did KC suddenly stop supporting their beloved Royals? No they didn't! In fact, I think that losing in the 2014 World Series actually made Kansas City that much more passionate about their Royals. So when the Royals won the AL Central, the city went crazy. But when the Royals won the 2015 World Series, the city went absolutely nuts! Though the Royals didn't make the playoffs this year, it didn't seem to dampen the enthusiasm of the Royals fans at all. I think that because the Royals missed the playoffs this past season, it will make Royals fans even more passionate about their team.
The city of Kansas City not only loves their Royals, they definitely loves its Chiefs. In fact, according to the Guinness Book of World Records, the loudest crowd roar at a sports stadium is Arrowhead Stadium, home of the Chiefs. "The loudest crowd roar at a sports stadium is 142.2 dbA and was achieved by fans of the Kansas City Chiefs (USA), at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri, USA, on 29 September 2014. The roar was recorded with 8 seconds remaining in the first quarter. The Chiefs defeated the New England Patriots 41-14." If this doesn't show haw passionate Chiefs fans are about their team, I don't know what will. Plus just like with the fans at Kauffman Stadium for the Royals, when you go to a Chiefs game at arrowhead stadium, every fan in the stadium is in KC Chiefs colors and very loud.
If Royals fans are making noise throughout an entire baseball game and Chiefs fans were able to set the new world record for the loudest stadium, imagine what it would be like if the NBA established a team in Kansas City. I think that the city would absolutely embrace the team with the same passion for their Royals and Chiefs. In addition to an NBA team, I think that Kansas City should also get an NHL team. Part of the reason for me is because of the rivalry between Kansas City and St. Louis, especially between the Royals and Cardinals. The two teams have never liked each other, and I think that an in state rival would make the cities that much better. But in order for the NHL to come, KC would need an NBA team first. If the NBA does ever consider doing any sort of expansion, Kansas City should be the top city on the list.
