Justin Bieber rocked the world this week when he announced his engagement to Hailey Baldwin. The internet has blown up with people desperately wishing that Justin Bieber was single again so he could date them or wondering what Selena Gomez thinks. The internet is a buzz of people offering their opinion, and since mine is totally unsolicited, I'm going to offer it as well.
I don't care about their engagement. And I'm not lying.
Now, don't get me wrong, I'm happy for anyone who is going to be engaged. I guess that I wish Justin and Hailey all the best, even though they don't know me and never will. But I don't really care about their relationship or their new engagement. I don't spend enough time on social media to become obsessed with Justin or Hailey. In the long run, their relationship doesn't affect anything about my personal life or matter to me. Because contrary to popular opinions, I don't really like Justin Bieber and I hardly know anything about Hailey Baldwin.
I think Justin Bieber has made some really poor decisions in his life, which doesn't make him a bad person but instead makes him someone that I'm not dying to know. His music isn't really my favorite, though I will admit that some of his songs are catchy (though I will never in a million years like "Baby"). And as for Hailey, I know nothing about her, so I can't form an opinion. Neither of them forms a strong enough impression on my mind that they deserve large amounts of praise from me.
I sometimes find myself getting excited about popular relationships and engagements, but those tend to be few and far between. I was ecstatic about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's engagement and marriage, but I was also just ecstatic about them as two individuals. I appreciate that they are modest, level-headed, and don't make a fool of themselves in the spotlight. They are adults who haven't made stupid decisions or embarrass themselves on social media or in the eyes of the public. I appreciate who they are as people, and I think that's why I don't care about Justin and Hailey's engagement. I just don't care for who they are as people.
The bottom line for this whole article is this: I don't care about a relationship between two people that I don't idolize. And I don't understand the way that our society idolizes celebrities. They are just people in the end. Sure, one can sing and one is a model, but they aren't God. I find myself agreeing with Selena's stance on the whole situation. She really doesn't care about the engagement, and neither do it.
