Jonny Diaz's song "Breathe" spoke to me on a whole new level this weekend while I was on retreat. It's a beautiful song, and I have always enjoyed the message behind it, but this past weekend I was at a retreat and I kept hearing the phrase "just be" in different talks or conversations. I immediately thought of "Breathe".
The song "Breathe" is about the constant rush of everyday life, and how it is important to take a moment to "just breathe". You will discover the Lord in the calmness. Take a moment to take a step back and "just be" with the Lord. It's truly a wonderful song that everybody should go listen to.
I continued to hear the phrase "just be" and was starting to wonder what the Lord was calling me to. What did He want me to make of this message?
As a part of the retreat, we had the opportunity to go to Eucharistic Adoration, and so, I decided that the Lord wanted me to just be in adoration with Him. Just be. Just sit in His presence and allow him to fill my heart with His abundant love. When it came time for adoration, I spent my time there just sitting there and allowing the Lord to fill my heart with His love. It was one of the most peaceful times of adoration that I have ever had. The Lord truly allowed me to just be.
On the way back to school, I listened to "Breathe" and realized just how much the song applied to everything that I had experienced this weekend. One of the lyrics in the song is, "Lay down what's good and find what's best". The Lord wants to give us what is best, but in order for us to receive that gift we have to be willing to let go of what we already know. We need to step out of our comfort zone and let go of the familiar to come to know the greater good the Lord is giving to us.
Take time each day to "Just be". Allow the Lord to show you His abundant love for you. Allow Him to give you the best graces by letting go of what is good. It can be so easy to get caught up in a busy day that we forget that the Lord has graces to give us every day. The Lord loves you so abundantly, and He wants to share that love with you. Let Him. Just be.
