I Just Need A Minute To Breathe

Life is hard. None of this is easy.

I just need a few moments to catch my breath. For everything to stop.

Stop.

Breathe in.

Work, school, money, relationships.

Tasks that need to be completed .. homework that needs to be done .. bills that need to be paid .. words and actions that can’t help but be overthought.

Making sure I’m always on time and on top of my work for my professional reputation .. getting that ‘A’ so that I can feel accomplished this semester .. budgeting my income so that I can pay everything I need to pay .. stressing over people who probably aren’t stressing over me.

Putting more effort into my work than I should because I care too much to not be the absolute best, and to give the people I work for my absolute best .. staying up all hours of the night so I can just get through these classes and receive that piece of paper I’ve been busting my ass for, and so I can finally have something to be proud of .. making sure that I have enough money to not only pay my debts and buy groceries, but have enough left over so I can go out with friends in attempt to keep some sort of social life .. have my heart broken time and time again by people who were never worth my time from the start, but gave them the time anyways because I care too much.

Work, school, money, relationships.

Stop.

Breathe out.

Life is hard. None of this is easy. No one is born knowing how to handle it all. Work, school, money, relationships. What about working out, eating healthy, staying emotionally stable, shutting off your electronics an hour before bed, calling your grandparents because you haven’t spoken to them in weeks, maintaining a good skin regimen, and getting 8 hours of sleep a night? Why does anyone in the world think this is possible? Why do the ones around us fail to remember that we are people as well? That we have lives? And responsibilities? And problems? And issues?

Stop.

Breathe in.

It’s time to stop doing everything for everyone else. It’s time to work hard for you. So do your absolute best with your job so that you can feel accomplished, not so you can impress your boss or coworkers .. bust your ass in school so that when it’s all said and done, you can have that degree and prove all the people who doubted you wrong .. work hard to make your money, then spend it wisely so you can experience the best things in life, such as traveling to a foreign country, getting your hair done just because you want to, buying that outdoor sectional you've been talking about forever, or getting lobster dinner because you damn well feel like it .. be kind to all, but save your love for the ones who are worth it and who will never fail to give their love back to you, for the ones who don’t make you overthink every word they said or every action they did, for the ones who make life worth living.

Work, school, money, relationships .. yourself.

Stop.

Breathe out.

I just needed a few moments to catch my breath. For everything to stop.

It's officially December. There is less than a month of 2024, and I still feel like yesterday was summer. Now comes the merriest time of the year, the Christmas season.

Everyone has been waiting for this time of year since mid-October (which is way too early, in my opinion) or before. It's a time of love, family, memory-making, and gift-giving. A lot of times when I ask friends and family what they want, I get a lot of "I don't know" or "I don't care."

I was sitting at my cubicle, now that I am an adult, looking at the rain pouring down on the windowsill, bumming on life, wishing for the rain to just stop for a full day.

There are moments where we count down the hours until work is over and how many more days till the weekend, and this many weeks until something exciting. Or something like that? Well, I was bumming because my next day off from work is not until Memorial Day weekend, which is not until the end of May. And since this is my first year out of college being a “real person,” I am totally missing the winter, spring and summer breaks. I am sure all of us have felt this way even if just for a hot minute…
