Back in October, I went with my church to a local school in Atlanta. They had a fall festival and all of us college kids went to serve those children and parents. Something happened that day that I don’t think I’ll ever forget.
At the end of the day, we were cleaning up, and a few kids were still left playing with each other. I was taking the trash from the football field up to the dumpster. As I came up the hill I witnessed this little girl falling and then she started bawling her eyes out. She had tripped on the concrete and fell. She was carrying a few bags of toys and other things with her. She may have had a blanket. I can’t remember, but I know she had stuff in her hands. I put down the trash bags I had been carrying and said, “Oh my goodness, what’s wrong? Come here.” And to my surprise, she dropped her stuff and came straight to my arms and sat in my lap. I held her tight until she stopped crying.
In that moment I knew God was winking at me and telling me to come to Him with all of my stuff — stuff that I had picked up and had been holding on so tightly to. So I did. Even as a Christian we sometimes have the tendency to pick things up that are not meant for us to pick up. We are meant to daily release our “stuff” into the hands of Jesus. He wants to comfort you and fight for you and heal you. He wants to put his loving arms around you and say, “It’s okay. I know. Come here I will take care of you.”
I’ve dealt with acid reflux for three years now, and my doctor couldn’t give me an exact answer as to why I have it, but he said there was really nothing he could do for it. There were other things going on, but Jesus said to me, “For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”(Mathew 11:30)
I’ve realized I need to lay everything I have that I’m carrying down daily at Jesus’ feet. I hope you are encouraged and know that our Heavenly Father loves us so very much. He is for you and not against you. He is the Champion of Heaven. He makes a way for us, when it seems like there is no way.
