You May Not Realize It, But It's Time For You To Go

To the person who needs to hear it:

You are not stuck. Anytime you need to, take off. Take off to a new place. Call that friend from college that lives in California and tell them you are coming to see them (thanks, Lindsey). Call that long lost cousin in Montana. Or call that hostel in Italy. Or call that friend on the coast you have not seen since high school. Or call your buddy in the next town over. All you need is a plane ticket or a full tank. You have a wandering spirit, go.

I know you are working 50 hours a week and trying to figure out who you are, but you need this. You need a day trip to the coast. You need to find yourself lost on a trail in the mountains. You need to find yourself lost in a city without a map. You need to find yourself cheering in a stadium you have never been to. You need it for the people around you. You need your soul to be poured into by new people in new places. You need it for you.

You can. You can skip that Starbucks once a week to build up a travel fund. You can start squirreling away every $5 bill you come across to contribute to that plane ticket.

Time away will do you some good. It will open your heart to new people. It will open your mind to new ideas. It will open your spirit to new energy. It will open your eyes to what goes on outside of your bubble.

You will see more than your mind can handle. There is a huge world out there. Sights of cities. Sights of ocean. Sights of mountains. Sights of deserts. Sights of the sky. Sights so big that you will not be able to see the same.

May you never feel like you have seen it all. May your soul always long for a new sight. May your spirit of adventure always be hungry.

So go. Buy that plane ticket or fill up your gas tank. Pack a bag and go. Please, just go. Go see. Go climb. Go play. Go cheer. Go see. Go swim. Go learn. Go serve. Go.

Trust me, go.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Whether you're commuting or dorming, your first year of college is a huge adjustment. Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
