If You Just Finished Your Freshman Year Of College, Relax

I know; it was stressful!

If you're like me, your freshman year of college was hard. You didn't perform to the best of your abilities, and your grades were subpar. Arriving on time to 8 a.m. classes was a rare occurrence for you. You may have consumed more food than knowledge and possibly "forgot" to exercise. There is a chance you weigh more than you did at the end of high school.

It's okay! You're not alone!

The shift from high school to college is rough for most people. Many high school seniors have an undeveloped understanding of what it takes to fully transition. That is not to say you didn't recognize the benefits of a college degree and grasp the idea that it will help you earn more money in life. You did; however, you might have lacked the preparation needed for what was thrown at you this year. Perhaps the homework was more mentally taxing than any homework in high school. Maybe you weren't ready for all that free time. Whatever the case may be, it's over now!

Before you move on to your busy summer, take a few days and wind down. Do anything that helps you relax. I suggest finding a hammock, attaching it to some trees, lying down in it, and spending some time in quiet reflection. Throw on some tranquil music and take a nap. Find some friends and go play volleyball at the lake. Forget about college, obligations, deadlines, and time constraints. You deserve it.

When you're ready to get back on the grind and start your summer tasks, just remember that college will still be there when you get back. And most of all, recall that you now know how college functions! You are fully prepared to tackle your next 3+ years with renewed vigor. Enjoy your summer!

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.
