On May 3, 2016, Ted Cruz announced he was suspending his presidential race. On May 4, two days after Cruz announced the end of the campaign, John Kasich announced he was dropping out as well, which leaves Donald Trump as the only Republican nominee left. He will get the nomination by default.
At first, Trump running for President was hilarious. "The guy from 'Celebrity Apprentice' is going to try and run the country? Ha! Sure. He wouldn't last three weeks," everyone said. It was a joke. A joke that has been running for way too long. This is no longer a joke, but, in fact, a truly shocking and terrifying time in our country. America is going to have a man running for president who believes that our country should make other countries pay for a wall that would separate us from the rest of the world.
A man who believes that Muslims should not enter into our country.
A man who has made incestuous and vulgar comments about his own daughter (which have been INCREDIBLY concerning).
A man who has sexually assaulted one of his partners in the past.
Now, this is not an article trying to bash Trump and explain why you shouldn’t vote for him. This is an article explaining why people need to be registered to vote by November, whether or not the person you support gets the nomination.
Now, I will admit: I feel the Bern. I feel it. I still believe that Bernie has a plan and I stand by him until the very end. However, there is a chance that Bernie might not get the democratic nomination. While that would be a disappointing outcome, we all have to look at all our options and make a choice that could benefit our party and the nation in the end.
Which means if Hillary Clinton wins the nomination, everyone registered as a Democrat should still vote in November.
Before you start to lose your sh*t and click out of this article because you do not agree, think about it: are you choosing not to vote because the person you wanted to win the presidential nomination is not on the ticket? That is not a real reason to not vote.
In fact, that can end up being incredibly harmful. When you choose not to vote, you are choosing to let ignorance and bigotry win.
Donald Trump winning the Republican nomination was not supposed to really happen, and now that it is a reality, everyone who is of age and who can go out and vote, needs to.
When you choose to not vote in November, you are choosing to "live in the suck." Which means that when the person you didn't want to win is President and you didn't vote, you don't get to complain. If you made the decision to not go out and make a difference and attempt to stop the worse from happening, then that's all on you. I know that when I go into that booth in November and I vote, I know that I did what I had to do in order to have a better life.
If you are an Independent who supports Bernie or Hillary, you need to register online now. It only takes five minutes out of your day. Five minutes, and if you are a registered Democrat, come November, you need to suck it up and vote for Hillary. I know you may not want to, but would you rather have a woman who doesn't like to talk about her emails and some transcripts or a “businessman” who represents intolerance and ignorance? This should be a no-brainier. If Bernie does not win the nomination, I will be voting for Hillary, and you should too.
