The pursuit of happiness is one of the three inalienable rights outlined in the U.S. Declaration of Independence. Life and Liberty are its predecessors in the historic document and are generally looked at as the more important and tangible rights. It’s easy to define having life and having liberty, however, the pursuit of happiness is quite a wildly interrupted phrase. The pursuit can be so many different things. Each one of us on this Earth can define their pursuit of happiness, but from day to day even that definition will change. Sure, there are certain set norms that all people believe will lead to happiness (love, laughter, joy etc.) but actually getting to the place of true happiness is never the same from person to person.
Due to my vast knowledge of all things deep from extensive life experience over my 21 years of living, obviously I am the foremost expert on this pursuit of happiness so allow me to impart my knowledge on to you, my audience:
Dance.
Have you ever seen anyone in their lives not enjoying themselves while dancing? No, it’s impossible not to. It doesn’t matter if you can’t rock your body like Justin Timberlake or you put your hands up in the club (club) like you just woke up (up), doing your own lil thing like Queen Bee herself. You can jam to the beat of your own tune and rock out however you please.
Dancing is an art, especially when done to perfection by professionals who train their whole lives for it but it’s so much more. It’s a form of self-expression. It’s one of the most basic forms of communication out there. Whether you had the greatest day ever or the worst week in the history of weeks, a 7-minute dance break can change everything.
You don’t need fancy shoes or a classic get-up. You don’t need your hair to be perfect or your make-up to be sharp. You don’t even need another person if you don’t want one. All you need a little bit of music and the ability to let go of everything else.
Do I believe that dancing is the cure to all problems and the key to happiness? No, sadly a few sweet dance moves will not unlock some perfect world where we are always happy, at least not for all of us. However, a single dance has been known make a big impact.
So when you’re feeling down or just feeling like having a smile on your face, throw on a good song and just dance.
