Yes, I'm A Liberal, But I'm Still Me
Alex Howell

Just because I'm a 'liberal' doesn't mean that I can't do some things or get along with people that don't call themselves a 'liberal'.

Growing up in rural America, there weren't many things to do. There's no denying that I was born and raised in rural America, whether I like it or not. But here lately after voicing my opinions, I have been told more and more that I am a "disgrace" to this part of America.

The only disgrace is that you are telling me that I'm a disgrace because I feel and think the way that I do. The only disgrace is that you think that I can't fish, hike, attend bonfires, etc. because I have the views and opinions that I do. The only disgrace is that is this country that is so well known for freedom of speech is trying to silence those of us trying to speak out. The only disgrace is that people think that I am going to disrespect my friends and my elders that support Donald Trump because I don't support him. The only disgrace is that everyone is so used to fighting now that we can't get along and have civilized conversations. The only disgrace is that most of you are trying to keep us from our views and opinions. And most importantly, the only disgrace is that America has forgotten what America is all about.

America is "the land of the free" and we need to start acting like it. My political opinions have nothing to do with the things that I enjoy doing. And they certainly don't make me a bad person.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE being in the city. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that I feel like I belong in the city. But none of this changes how I was raised.
