Shawn Mendes, Drake, Leonard Cohen, The Tragically Hip, Alessia Cara and so many more amazing Canadian artists who've won, been nominated or performed at this year's Juno Awards.
Not sure what that is? No worries.
The Juno Awards are the Canadian awards celebrating all Canadian music artists, and their achievements. It's the one night of the year where us Canadians can get together, from different genres and enjoy the love of music and Canada itself.
This year's Co-hosts were Bryan Adams and Russell Peters, which may not have been a usual couple to pair, but it totally worked! Michael Bublé was actually the supposed to be the host, but unfortunately with his son battling cancer, he was unable to host, nor do any tours. Even our Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his wife Sophie Grégoire Trudeau came out to enjoy the evening and gave a great speech about recently passed Leonard Cohen and how close they were to him.
Now for someone who is Canadian, I am incredibly proud of every artist that has come out for the night (April 2nd 2017) and to share the hard work, pressure, and dedication they have for their passion!
To start off the night, the Junos had an incredible opening of A Tribe Called Red which is an aboriginal band, and was pretty spectacular! Moving on to performances by Shawn Mendes, Alessia Cara with Zedd, and even bringing back Billy Talent for the night!
As the night progresses, more awards were handed out, more performances that were on the top of their game! Sarah McLachlan received the Canadian Music Hall of Fame award (which is about time might I add) and when she gave her speech, she spoke so beautifully about how music connects us all without any divisions of ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, or genre, and that we are a loving Country who haven't forgotten how to be polite.
When The Tragically Hip received the Group of The Year award, Paul Langlois (Band member) was literally cued off stage by cutting off his mic in the middle of his speech about other band-mate Gord Downie to go to a commercial break. #Holdup
And last but not least, to end the night of course Co-host Bryan Adams ended with a huge jam session alongside other winners and performers with Summer of 69, which if you're Canadian and have any knowledge of him, then you will know it's one of the best songs that lives on from it's original release in 1984.
If this doesn't give you a little push towards listening to some of our great Canadian Musicians, then I don't know what will...
