Over the past few weeks it has become very clear to me that everyone seems to care how everyone else lives. People look at others and if they're different they judge them. It has become really frustrating to me, mostly because I've noticed that I'm a part of it.
When we look at people, why does it matter that they're different? Why does it matter that they aren't the same as we are, and why does it matter that they aren't following what society calls "normal"? If someone decides to go against the flow, we all automatically assume they're crazy, or unintelligent. We start to reject them from normal society.
What would happen if we all did something that wasn't exactly normal? Let's say everyone wore a crazy outfit, said something that wouldn't be considered normal or embraced a different culture. The world wouldn't end. It would be more accepting of diversity.
Diversity is a part of the world that many people seem to be terrified of. We all seem to believe that if someone believes differently than we do, they are wrong. That is a huge problem in this world. If we can't become accepting of different people and cultures we will never have the world peace we all so desperately want. Just because someone believes differently, doesn't mean they are wrong. If we learned that, we would be in a much better place.
What does it matter if someone believes or behaves differently than you do? If they aren't hurting you, why do you care? If we started living in a world where different was OK, things would be better for everyone. You wouldn't have to worry about what everyone else was doing and you wouldn't have to worry about what others thought of what you were doing.
By caring how others live, we are only hindering ourselves and others. The world would look like a much more peaceful and friendly place if we all just accepted that people are different. All people are not going to like or believe the same things. If they did the world would be a very boring place.
If we all just took the time to TRY to accept the people around us, no matter how different they are, things would start to change. The generations that follow us would not know the barbarian way in which we view difference. World peace would be closer than any of us ever thought it could be.
