The Joys Of Gift Giving

As soon as Thanksgiving rolls around, gift giving season starts to ramp up. Whether you are shopping for Christmas gifts, secret santa gifts, or charity fill the fireplaces, gift giving can make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside and can make other people feel good too. So what makes you feel so great when giving gifts to other people?

First off, the hunt is an exciting process. Thinking about what someone else wants and what would make them happy is the first step in giving a gift. Putting yourself in someone else's shoes can be a tricky thing. You quickly can get caught up in thinking about "would they really use this" or "would they like this". It can be hard to pinpoint the perfect gift. Actually going to the mall or hunting on Amazon is thrilling. You can imagine giving the perfect gift and them being so happy and excited as they open it.

So how do you pick the best gift ever for your parents, siblings or significant other? Well I think that giving a really personal gift is the best way to go. It doesn't matter if you are old, young, male or female everyone likes getting something that makes them feel special and that you (the gift giver) took the time to find something so unique. If you don't know the person well enough to go personal or you're still not quite sure what to get them here is a short list of some possible gifts to give someone you love.

1. The warm and comforting gift: a box of hot chocolate, cute mug, warm socks, and a pair of mittens

2. For the sports lover: framed blue prints of their favorite team's stadium

3. The gift of cookies: a mason jar cookie making kit, a holiday themed whisk, and a cookbook of delicious desserts

4. For the music lover: a years subscription to Spotify and a pair of wireless headphones

5. For anyone: a meaningful picture of you and them framed along with a nice note that describes why they mean so much to you (This one never fails, everyone always loves this gift).

6. For the girlfriend you have no idea what to get her: usually any piece of jewelry will blow her mind and she will treasure it forever, but another good choice is getting her a matching hat, scarf and glove set.

7. For the boyfriend who won't tell you what he wants: flannels seem to be a safe option but a few pairs of holiday themed boxers are a crowd pleaser.

8. For your holiday charity: pick anything! Like so many other instances the thought is really what counts for charities.

9. For the nerd: there are websites all over the internet that you can type in whatever their favorite TV show, comic book, movie or hobby and a hundred different toys or memorabilia items will be at your fingertips. (Internet makes things super easy now a days)

10. For the shopaholic: as generic as it sounds gift cards are a shopaholics best friend.

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Feeling Lost During Syllabus Week? You're Not Alone!

Kourtney Kardashian

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.
