This week my rockstar older sister gave birth to her and her husband’s second boy, Colton Wilder! As my family has been anticipating his arrival I kept thinking back to when my first nephew, Brooks Mitchell, was born. Both times I was away at school when they arrived, and so now I have to wait till Christmas break to meet the newest addition. Both times I hated not being home, I hated that I was not there for such a big moment for my sister. But just like the last time, she was a rockstar and now has a family of four. I remember when I held my first nephew I cried when my sister handed him to me. I couldn’t believe he was here, and I was amazed at his perfect tiny self. He was so delicate and quiet, peacefully sleeping in my arms. I didn’t realize I could love someone so much. Wether it is a nephew or a niece, they are a part of your family and change the family dynamic in the best way. They are a joy, a blessing. I quickly realized that I wanted to be present in my nephews lives as much as possible, I want them to feel loved and to know I would do anything for them. Since my first nephew was born I have been praying for them as they grow up and the people they will become. I hope they become people of character, integrity, and God-loving. Therefore I want to be the best I can be so I can help them in the things that maybe no one else can teach them. I know they are not MY kids, but they are my sister’s. Therefore they are a part of my life forever and I love them immensely. Besides, who doesn’t love kids?! Children are a blessing! They make us laugh in ways that only innocent little kids can, and they challenge us in who we are and who we want to be. When I come home from school majority of my time is focused of my nephews. I do not want to be a stranger to them, I want them to know the strength in a family. I know I am not going to be a perfect person in their lives, but I want them to know they are always loved.
