My Journey to Lawrence Technological University

When people ask me what college I attend and I tell them I go to Lawrence Tech, a number of questions arise. The first question is usually: where is Lawrence Tech? LTU is a small, private university in Southfield, Michigan; a city just north of Detroit. The next question is typically: why did you choose to attend LTU? This is where I'd like to start my story about why I came to LTU.

My Desired Major

The first reason I chose to attend LTU is because it is one of two universities (the other being U of M) in the state of Michigan (my home state) that offers an accredited Architecture program, which was my desired major when I was in high school. I desired to stay in Michigan so I chose LTU over U of M for a number of reasons.

Scholarships

The main reason I chose LTU over U of M is because of the overall cost I would have to pay. Both universities are relatively expensive when it comes to tuition but LTU offered me a much better scholarship than U of M did so, for that reason, I decided to go with LTU.

How I Heard of LTU

I actually never even heard of LTU until my senior year of high school when I was attending a college fair at a local community college near my house. I was prepared to attend another university for a pre-architecture program until I met with a representative from LTU. The representative told me about how the program only takes about 5 or 6 years (much less than the university I was going to attend, which was about 8 years).

Where I'm From

When I tell people where I'm originally from they usually questions why I chose LTU as well. I am from a small town in northern Michigan called Mackinaw City. Mackinaw is about 4 hours north of LTU, so a fairly long drive compared to most people I go to school with so I get asked a lot why I chose to attend LTU because of it. Well, frankly, it is the closest university to my hometown that offered my desired major so I did not really have a choice.

So that is pretty much the story behind why I chose to attend LTU. It has been a fun experience so far, and I will be graduating this May with a Bachelor's Degree in Architecture!

To My Loving Boyfriend,

  • Thank you for all that you do for me
  • Thank you for working through disagreements with me
  • Thank you for always supporting me
  • I appreciate you more than words can express
  • You have helped me grow and become a better person
  • I can't wait to see where life takes us next
  • I promise to cherish every moment with you
  • Thank you for being my best friend and confidante
  • I love you and everything you do

To start off, here's something I don't say nearly enough: thank you. Thank you, thank you, thank you from the bottom of my heart. You do so much for me that I can't even put into words how much I appreciate everything you do - and have done - for me over the course of our relationship so far. While every couple has their fair share of tiffs and disagreements, thank you for getting through all of them with me and making us a better couple at the other end. With any argument, we don't just throw in the towel and say we're done, but we work towards a solution that puts us in a greater place each day. Thank you for always working with me and never giving up on us.

Ah, yes, good old Hauppauge. We are that town in the dead center of Long Island that barely anyone knows how to pronounce unless they're from the town itself or live in a nearby area. Hauppauge is home to people of all kinds. We always have new families joining the community but honestly, the majority of the town is filled with people who never leave (high school alumni) and elders who have raised their kids here. Around the town, there are some just some landmarks and places that only the people of Hauppauge will ever understand the importance or even the annoyance of.

Tamatoa created a liar filled with shiny things simply for the purpose of tricking fish to enter and become his food. He too experiences a lesson in how easy it is to be tricked by shiny things when Moana distracts him by covering herself in glowing algae so Maui can grab his hook.
