#11 ranked Welterweight Jorge "Gamebred" Masvidal will be taking on #3 ranked Darren "The Gorilla" Till in the main event this weekend at UFC Fight Night 147 in London, England at the O2 Arena in a bout that already potentially fight of the year when we consider who these 2 contenders are. With the recent defeat of former champion Tyron Woodley at UFC 235, the Welterweight Division has been shuffled up with the new UFC Welterweight Champion Kamaru Usman. While both fighters in the main event this weekend are coming off of losses they are both top contenders that can give Kamaru a run for his money.
It has been a struggle to get these 2 top contenders opponent's, and this was the ideal match up to headline this card. Former title challenger Darren Till was ready to have a home game in England as he has been very eager to return to the octagon since his recent loss. Even with his most recent loss against former champion Tyron "The Chosen One" Woodley at UFC 228 Darren Till still has plenty of momentum behind him. With only 1 loss in his mix martial arts career, Darren Till is ready to show why he is the best striker in the Welterweight division.
Jorge Masvidal has been out of action for quite some time as he also struggled to find an opponent before this match was booked. The last time Jorge Masvidal was in action was at UFC 217 when he faced now #4 ranked welterweight Stephen "Wonderboy" Thompson in a title contention fight that "Wonderboy" walked away with when he won the fight by unanimous decision. Unfortunately, Masvidal is currently on a 2 fight losing streak and he lost the bout before that against former title challenger Damian Maia by split decision. Jorge Masvidal is looking to get one of the biggest upsets this year if he can hand Darren Till his 2nd loss in the UFC.
Since Kamaru Usman defeated Tyron Woodley at UFC 235 and claimed the UFC Welterweight Championship, he has started a new era that will be very interesting to see how it plays out as the year continues to unfold. Dana White has already announced that the next big fight in the welterweight division is already set to take place as Kamaru Usman will defend his new title for the 1st time against former Interim Title holder Colby "Chaos" Covington. It is just unclear when or where this fight will take place. More than likely it will take place on international fight week in July.
It is well known that the Funky one Ben Askren will also be at the event this weekend as he is expected to call out and take on the winner between Jorge Masvidal and Darren Till. Ben Askren is coming off of a controversial victory over "Ruthless" Robbie Lawler. A potential fight between #6 ranked "Funky" Ben Askren and either Darren Till or Jorge Masvidal would be very interesting. Darren Till and Ben Askren have continued to go back and forth the past couple of weeks. Especially, after Bens most recent victory.
