Jordans vs. Jesus: Does it even make sense?

A world that is dominated by iPhones, the internet, fashion, and relationships is a world that leads to emptiness. Maybe, starting today, this can change by redirecting our thoughts towards healthier lifestyles.

We are materialist beings

Molded, shaped, destroyed

Employed by secular ideals

Feeling nothing that is real

Why do our iPhones

Take up more time than our Bible

We’re unreliable and its undeniable

Our priorities aren’t straight

Why do humanly relationships

Attempt to fill a hole

Never keeping our soul satisfied

But Jesus has no role

Maybe one day we will see

To flee our pain and suffering

We will ditch our surface covering

And get deep

We care more about a stain

On the whites of our Jordans

Than we ever could about the pain

We inflict on others

Do you see what I’m saying?

How sad is this life of ours?

Maybe I’m sour, a dead flower

Hoping to finally get some sun

Unplug from the internet

Social media, Google, Soundcloud

Stop listening to the newest mixtape

Escape from the prison you are in

Appreciate,

Eliminate the empty space

Fill it with faith

Get your life straight

But what hypocrite am I

To lie and say I am different

The truth is I feel like I would die

Without an iPhone by my side

The stains on my shoes bother me

The internet makes me feel free

Does everyone see

The emptiness within me?

My headphones are in my pocket

But my Bible in my drawer

I want to soar, ignore the truth

Yet the truth shakes me to my core

I see more SnapChats than Pastors

Facebook likes are a must

This trust, this lust for attention

The Bible never mentioned

I guess we’re all afraid

To lay down our lives for Him

We would rather sin, then begin

To make a difference

Today is the day of change

Can you accept my call to you?

Our lives need to be rearranged

We know what we need to do

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
