Jonathan’s Upcoming Summer Theater-Viewing Schedule

Only a few weeks left of summer! Since I came home from college back in May, I have made myself useful and productive. I’ve been working at a local sports talk radio station in Guilderland, New York (104.5 The Team ESPN Radio), completed an online class from SUNY Oswego that will help me graduate from college early (copy editing JRL 220), and currently, work at my home church doing landscaping and other chores (Solid Rock Family Church in Glenmont, NY). However, I don’t want the remaining time of my summer to be unexciting and not pleasant. Fortunately, I happen to live with someone who enjoys seeing local theatrical productions as much as I do: my mom. Both of us, in recent memory, had performed in a few shows with different theater companies all around the Capital Region, but now, we’ve retired from performing in shows and instead plan to go see shows and support our acting peers. Here is a list of upcoming productions I will be going to see, as part of my summer theater-viewing tour:

1.Consortium Actors’ “Legally Blonde” – Thursday, July 20 at Siena College

This musical is based on the popular Reese Witherspoon film. Consortium Actors, as I have witnessed on many prior occasions, puts on shows that usually hit the jackpot. The music, the dancing, the acting, the sets, all of it! Consortium Actors uses the stage in Foy Hall of Siena College (a mid-major college located in Loudonville, NY) as its main performing platform. This show will finish up this weekend, and I highly recommend theater lovers in upstate New York to check out “Legally Blonde.” Go support these fine young performers! You will not be disappointed!

2.Not-So-Common Players’ “Fiddler on the Roof” – Friday, July 21 at the Clifton Commons Outdoor Stage, Clifton Park, NY

In addition to “Les Miserables,” “Guys and Dolls,” and “Anything Goes,” “Fiddler on the Roof” is one of my favorite musicals. Why? The same reason I like the others: the songs. From “Tradition” to “If I Were a Rich Man.” These tunes will get stuck in one’s head after seeing this show.Not-So-Common Players, a theater company located in Clifton Park, has put on excellent summer productions in recent years, such as “Anything Goes,” “State Fair,” “Damn Yankees,” and “Cinderella,” to name a few. This show has a flare for the dramatic. Theater brings out all sorts of emotions. Like the world of theater, “Fiddler on the Roof” is a classic that will never die down. You may even say it’s “tradition!”

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.

Where do we begin when we start talking about our roommates? You practically spend every moment with them, they become your second family and they deal with you at your best and at your absolute worst. They are there to make you laugh just a little harder, cry a little less and make each day a little better. We often forget to thank them for the little things that they do to make college even a tiny bit easier and more fun. This list of 26 things are what you should thank your roommates for right this minute and every day that you live with them.
