Jon Jones ruined everything. Jones getting officially off the UFC 200 fight card after potential doping violation, pushed the Brock Lesnar vs. Mark Hunt fight to the sole main event spot and left light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier with no opponent.
In all honesty, it was horrible. Plain and simple. Dana White took the words right out of my mouth when he announced the violation and said, “This sucks. This is unfortunate.” It took any wind out of the UFC’s sails, and definitely tarnished what was supposed to go down as the best UFC event of all-time. Because of this, I didn't even buy this pay-per-view.
This failed drug test doesn’t just hurt Jon Jones and his career. It hurts Daniel Cormier, who had been training endlessly and looking to avenge the biggest loss of his career. It hurt Dana White, who put all his eggs in this basket after Conor McGregor got kicked off the card. It hurt the UFC, both financially and publicly, and forced them to try and pull something out from nowhere.
I thought things had changed once Jones came back and beat Ovince Saint Preaux, and showed that he was here to stay. It looked like the UFC was going back to the good ol’ days, and it didn’t need to rely on Conor McGregor or Ronda Rousey and all of their hype. This will likely end Jones’ career, due to what will likely be a two-year suspension from this violation. It may not seem like it, but this all has more implications than just how it affected UFC 200.
I may just be upset because I am/was a huge Jon Jones fan, and it may seem like I’m overreacting, but this is a huge deal. Jon Jones single handily ruined UFC 200.
