It's come to this. I am a 20-year-old girl writing an article insulting a 15-year-old girl. But hey, JoJo is in the public, so it's fine.
First of all, I'd like to lay out my extreme bias against this girl. Her wild screaming and obnoxiously tight ponytail boils my blood to 100 degrees Fahrenheit, which is approximately 1.4 degrees higher than normal.
JoJo's bright and energetic personality differs so much from my calm and incredibly jaded persona. So every time a video of her pops up on my social media feed, it feels like the remains of my soul are being sucked from my body as if my spirit is descending into Hell.
But enough about my slightly unreasonable distaste for this bow-bearing blondie. I want to address some videos that compare JoJo to other girls who are younger than her.
Videos like this one pit JoJo against other 15-year-old girls, and in this case, a girl named Malu Trevejo. The behavior of both of these girls is unlike what I'd expect most teenagers to be like because when I was 15, all I did was try to reach the bottom of my Tumblr feed. But the real issue here lies in the comment section.
Many people believe that JoJo is a role model for young people. Even the top comment with over 2,000 likes says "JoJo is a better influence, especially to young girls." But I really don't understand why JoJo is a role model. She's just a girl... a very strange, overenthusiastic girl.
And why is it okay to put down another girl to raise JoJo up? Even I'm weirded out seeing a teenage girl dance and dress provocatively, but hey, she's just a girl who is comfortable with her body and sexuality.
Viewers also comment on Malu's crop tops and other revealing clothing. Many people also make fun of JoJo for dressing too young for her age. It's almost as if people will never be satisfied!
Although I started this out by ripping apart JoJo's overdone personality, that's just my opinion. It doesn't mean I have the right to police her or tell her that she should stop making videos that hurt my brain. Just treat these ladies with respect. And here is where I conclude my somewhat hypocritical argument.
