With sorority recruitment quickly approaching, I am constantly reminded of how much joining a sorority has impacted me and my life. While joining a sorority is not for every girl, it most certainly was, and still is, for me.
1. You now have hundreds of different closets to look through for outfit options
Joining a sorority means constantly being around girls with unique and different styles. In turn, this now gives you permission to borrow and wear these different clothes (or at least I think it gives me permission!)
2. It gives me a reason to dress up for a night
Also known as formal. It's like reliving high school prom all over again every year- except there are no parents and it's wayyyyyy more fun.
3. It gives me a reason to not talk to certain boys anymore
Also known as formal. I used to joke that I had some kind of bad date curse, but hopefully that's over now. #pray4me
4. For showing me what true sisterhood is all about
I have two words for this: unconditional love. There is no greater feeling in the world than knowing even if you mess up, or make a mistake, or sometimes say something you shouldn't, you're still surrounded by girls who love you. They laugh with you and they cry with you (and we all know how emotional I can be) and they celebrate your exciting times as if it's their own.
5. For teaching me about selflessness
I have never had sisters before, so I wasn't sure what to expect. I'm an only child so it was a change to now truly put others before myself, even when I sometimes didn't want to. It's like letting your sister have the last sandwich at recruitment workshop. If I ever give up food for you, you know it's real.
6. For proving to you (finally) that you can be friends with girls
Maybe it's because I'm not in high school anymore or maybe it's because my sisters are literally the greatest girls on earth, but being in a sorority showed me how important it is to have friends that are girls. They just get me.
7. In fact, they'll be the best friends you ever had
It may not be like this for all girls (especially at bigger schools), but every close friend I have is also in my sorority. I know I would be friends with them even if we were all in different ones, but it's even more special to share this bond of sisterhood with them.
