My freshmen year of high school I cultivated a list of goals that I hoped to achieve by the time I was 25. Ever since then, I've worked diligently to cross those goals off of this list no matter how trivial or significant. However, the goal at the top of my list was to serve in the Peace Corps because I wanted to step outside the mundanities of my every day life and envision the world through a new and improved perspective. I've also just wanted to go out and do something that would push me out of my comfort zone.
The Peace Corps offers volunteers a real chance to make a tangible difference in the lives of individuals in need, which really resonates with me. I've always felt compelled to help others and see the world through a different lens because in this chaotic world, the best way to achieve peace would be to experience the world through a different perspective. The Peace Corps allows their volunteers to experience this unique opportunity.
I want to immerse myself in other cultures and meet individuals who will enrich my life as I work to help them through the Peace Corps. I want to show individuals that I am interested in understanding them by living and communicating with them, not just passively absorbing the information from the news. The opportunity to go out and make a change no matter how big or small seems much more paramount than other human experience. I yearn to inspire and grow as an individual, and I think the Peace Corps can help me achieve my goals.
These past few years of my life, I've realized that I've become completely absorbed in the dilemmas that I face in high school and college, and I feel as though I neglect to realize that there is a whole world out there beyond myself. There aren't very many opportunities in life to give back and do the right thing, so I want to join the Peace Corps to help individuals in need.
