10 Reasons You Should Be Jealous You're Not Part Of Delta Sigma Pi At Lindenwood

I am a proud Brother of the international fraternity of Delta Sigma Pi.

I can already hear people in my head, “Don’t you mean sorority?”

No, no I do not. I'm a girl, I'm in a fraternity. I know what I'm in. Due to the fact that it is a co-ed organization, it takes the masculine form and since it was originally all male, the name stuck. I am apart of a beautiful business opportunity that is open to everyone despite sex, gender, race, or political and religious affiliations.

My freshman year of college I pledged for Delta Sigma Pi. DSP is an international professional business fraternity and I am so fortunate that it is offered at my university! As our recruitment approaches, I’d like to list some of the benefits of being in Delta Sigma Pi.

10. It’s fun to confuse people.

I’m in a fraternity! “But you’re a girl”

“Oh, you must party because you’re in a fraternity” Well if Job Fairs and Networking is a party, then yes!

(guys) " Dude, you just called that girl your Brother." Yea, because she is...

9. It’s a good resume builder.

I have had people look at my application before and go, “wow, you’re in Delta Sigma Pi? That is very impressive!” Remember Freshman year when they told you that a hundred people will turn in an application just like yours - a great student, involved on campus, worked a couple jobs while attending school to show they could balance their life, maybe even volunteered a little. You needed to be sure that you had something on your resume that set you apart from everyone else. That is what Delta Sigma Pi does for me. It is an organization that is known around the world and holds the utmost respect but numerous businesses.

8. The job opportunities are endless.

I had a member tell me once that every job she had ever had came from being a Brother in Delta Sigma Pi. DSP gives you the opportunity to know about job openings before they are even released to the public. You find so many connections that sometimes you go to job fairs and people are offering you jobs on the spot, just because you are in DSP. It’s hard to get your foot in the door sometimes. It says something about your character that you joined a group of collegian professionals at such a young age. It shows initiative, who doesn’t like that?

7. It’s so much more than just professional development.

This organization doesn’t want you to just be a better professional, but they want you to be a better person. That is why Delta Sigma Pi hosts on-campus events, community service both locally and on a national level, fundraising events to teach you how to handle money, social events to find friends, scholarship opportunities to help you through school, and SO much more!

6. It teaches you how to dress for success.

I thought that dressing up was simple. Do you know there are four different dress codes for business professionals and you better believe that if you dress the wrong way that the people in cubical 5 and 6 will be making fun of you for it! Delta Sigma Pi has taught me all the specifics on what exactly is appropriate based on which business I am touring or interviewing at.

5. The discounts are endless!

DSP is corporate partners with various businesses including bigger named ones such as Enterprise, AT&T, Office Depot, Mecca, Hertz, various hotels, Geico, etc. etc. etc. I took a trip to New Orleans last year and saved $200 in expenses simply because I have a Delta Sigma Pi membership card. I’m drawing you in now, aren’t I?

4. You get to travel far and wide.

Thanks to Delta Sigma Pi I have traveled to Ohio, Kansas, Texas, Louisiana, and Missouri. Once a semester they offer a leadership conference to help you become a better Brother, Leader, and Business Professional. Not only do we get to stay in the top of the line hotels, but we also get to meet local and international businesses personally. Not to mention, due to our initiation of over 260,000 Brothers, we get to meet all types of people from all over the world which expands your knowledge about various cultures.

3. You have personal tutors at your disposal.

College is already hard. Thankfully, I now have connections with personal tutors thanks to my Brothers. A class I would have otherwise failed, I somehow got A. I have even messaged our group about my class schedule to see which teachers I should take. College is so much easier with Brothers by my side because I have a group of people taking the same classes that I am. Let's face it, sometimes business can be a foreign language.

2. It’s not just college, but instead, a life-long bond.

Delta Sigma Pi is NOT just for four years. Delta Sigma Pi is a life choice. It’s great to have friends in other clubs, but after you graduate how much will you be able to see them? Once in DSP when you graduate you move onto your local Alumni Chapter and then you continue to network with companies, grow professionally, and expand your knowledge of the ever-evolving business world. It’s not just for four years - It’s for life!

1. You get the best friendship imaginable - brotherhood!

It doesn’t matter where I move to, I know I will have a friend because I have Brothers. I am an introvert by all means, but now I have people that I wave to in the halls, I have someone in my classes that I can partner with for group projects, and I have people to eat dinner with.

Now, I have people that will drag me out of my room to attend University events. I have a family now at Lindenwood University and it is all because I made the choice to pledge Delta Sigma Pi.

Check out how what an amazing opportunity we offer to people at #PTBAD (Proud to Be a Deltasig) or Lindenwood Delta Sigma Pi on Facebook.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
