Make-A-Wish Foundation

In 2002, Chi Omega announced Make-A-Wish as their national philanthropy. Since then, the women of Chi Omega have collectively raised over 18 million dollars and volunteered nearly 1,000,000 hours in service of Make-A-Wish. The Make-A-Wish mission, as stated on their website, is to "grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy."

Imagine being told that you had a life-threatening illness. Now, imagine being a child having to hear those same words. Children can't possibly comprehend the magnitude of what those words mean, let alone prepare for the suffering of treatment and therapy ahead of them. They are supposed to have so much more life to look forward to. The Make-A-Wish Foundation makes these words a little more bearable for these children by giving them something to look forward to, something that keeps them wanting to fight against their illness.

The women of the Gamma chapter of Chi Omega, here at Florida State University, are so passionate about Make-A-Wish. Last year, Chi Omega's creole cookout raised over $30,000 in total. The average cost associated with coordinating a wish, as of 2016, was $10,130. That's 3 wishes granted, all because of the love and support of people who care.

This year, you can be a part of granting these wishes. On February 28th, The Gamma chapter of Chi Omega at Florida State University will be hosting their 3rd annual Chi Omega Creole Cookout benefiting the Make-A-Wish Foundation. This event will take place at Chi Omegaā€™s house, where New Orleans-style food will be served in thanks to sponsors at Harryā€™s Restaurant. Tickets for the event can be purchased here. If you can't make it to the actual event, there are plenty of ways to get involved and contribute to this inspirational cause. You can donate to the fundraiser here. You may also be interested in entering your name in a drawing for the chance to win a Florida State Football helmet, signed by all FSU Heisman Trophy winners! You can buy in for a donation of $15 here.

Everyone who supports Make-A-Wish has their own personal reason why. Everyone knows someone who has been influenced by this foundation in some way. Come join Chi Omega on Fat Tuesday in hopes of raising over $20,000 for this amazing organization!

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, Iā€™m sure youā€™ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the classā€™ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"
