In the past weeks and months, the American people (and the entire world) have had the privilege to get to know who Donald Trump really is through his presidential campaign. A surprising amount of people have shown love and support for his message, but many people on the left, and a surprising amount of people on the right, find his message to be radical and divisive. Now with the primaries all but over, Donald Trump is the official nominee of the Republican Party and many Republicans are left scratching their heads.
Donald Trump has said a lot of things, and he's done a lot of things. Trump is currently facing fraud charges due to Trump University. He attacked the Khan family and further alienated voters. And yes, he's just been going further down in the polls.
Now, in no way am I endorsing anyone, but let's talk about Libertarian Gary Johnson and what he means to Trump.
Personally, I know five former Trump supporters who now plan to vote for Johnson; and at the moment he's polling at around 13 percent (two points away from being able to debate with Trump and Clinton).
Gary Johnson is well-known as being the Republican governor of New Mexico and he's now running under the Libertarian ticket for president. He shares basic Republican economical beliefs of small government, but he shares common liberal social standpoints. With all of Trump's divisive rhetoric, many Republicans are looking for a candidate they can agree with, and Johnson is standing there, beckoning to them.
I can't tell you that Gary Johnson even has a chance, but I can tell you, voting for him is much better than a vote for Trump. Trump has proved to us time and time again that he's a monster that should never be given command of our nuclear codes. He's unstable, he's divisive and honestly, I'm pretty sure he has no idea what's really going on. He considers NATO to be a huge expense for the US, even though it only takes 500 million a year from us (which in reality is nothing compared to how much we spend on many other things). He just continuously says things that simply don't check out and he's currently having a love affair with Vladimir Putin.
At the moment, I'm an undecided voter. I consider Hillary Clinton, Jill Stein and Gary Johnson for my vote, but I write this to the Republicans and Independents who lean to the right and ask them to take a look at Johnson and consider him over Trump. Many Republicans are voting for Trump just because they hate Clinton that much (not because they like Trump that much either). I ask them to look at Johnson as well and reconsider their choice.
Johnson may make history as the most successful third party candidate of all time if he continues at this rate, and you know what, i do think he has a chance of winning; no matter how small it is statistically. Even if he doesn't win, at least you can say you voted for someone who isn't a crazy, divisive, potentially senile xenophobe who looks like a stupider Adolf Hitler in the making.
