To the world outside the bubble,
I come from a place where a $500,000 house is a bargain. I come from a city where the kids are high on who-knows-what, but the parents are working too hard to notice. Self entitlement is my culture and the ringing of a $700 phone is our anthem. Do not misunderstand, I love this city. Johns Creek has given me everything I have and is everything I am. This is the story of a bubble that happens to hold some of the richest cities in America, along with the richest cities in Georgia.
Johns Creek is the city your mother dreams of living in. This is one of the best schools in the state, with a 98% graduation rate and state ranking sports teams. The crime rate is low too, approximately 90% below the national average. To sum this up, Johns Creek is the perfect city for perfect families. But, that's all on paper.
To say the least, Johns Creek suffers from a drug problem. Classmates of mine, just fourteen, are already addicted to marijuana, tobacco, heroin, etc. Even just writing this article, it's hard to find the statistics. They've been taken down or altered. Information is easily looked over when you can't see over the stacks of cash.
The kids are depressed, overworked and underappreciated. There is nothing more dangerous than pretty, drunk rich kids. This is a toxic environment, a breeding ground for senators and trophy wives and executives of technology companies. This is not a city filled with happy people.
This is the Upper East Side of the south, the east coast version of the 90210. The water is triple filtered and the bags are designer. The saying that cash will corrupt you is true, so take it as you will. When you combine powerful parents and dangerous intentions, you never get a happy ending. Heed my warning and avoid the creek.
With love,
A concerned Johns Creek Resident
