13 Questions I Have For John Jay College Of Criminal Justice

As a recent graduate of John Jay College who was there for five and a half years; I fell in love with what the school had to offer and how much it allowed me to grow. Yet, for all the good things, there were various things that were very irritating because of how they would personally affect you. John Jay, as much as I love you, there are a few things you need to know so the place can be much better than it already is.

1. What possessed you to buy a statue and place it in the middle of the atrium? All people do is sit near it and occasionally take a selfie.

2. Why are there always maintenance issues with the elevators and escalators? Students need them for easy access to classes and events. Since they do not work, it makes our struggle so much more difficult.

3. Where does the money that we use to pay for our student technology fee go? There are still many people who have problems connecting to the internet and the schools own tech devices do not run very fast.

4. Who is controlling the Wi-Fi settings at John Jay? Connecting to the internet never seemed so hard and not to mention the fact that you could have access one minute and lose it within a second.

5. When will there be an equal amount of class options for all students? Only offering one class per session is not a solution. It makes the problem more difficult because the days and times may not work for everyone who needs that class.

6. Why doesn’t every student get financial aid? Regardless of how much someone is or isn’t making, there should be some leeway on helping us pay for school because it is not an easy job for sure.

7. Do we really need tickets to speak to people at Jay Express or Bursar? We have to wait long enough as is. The use of tickets has not made any sudden, dramatic change to how fast the people working there move.

8. Does our tuition money actually equal the education we are receiving? Classes get canceled and we are overworked because of how much we are expected to read and write. There should be some leniency there because we have a life outside of being college students.

9. Who came up with the idea to put classrooms in the most confusing places? There are some rooms that require going through a maze just to be found. We are all in a hurry. Put everything next to each other.

10. Has the next President been chosen yet? Jeremy Travis stepped down. Everyone should know who his successor will be.

11. Are shooting TV shows necessary? Whenever this happens, all television crew members forget that they are on a college campus where there are people besides them. People who have places to go.

12. Why can’t we party on the Jay Walk? It is such a beautiful location for music to playing and everyone to be dancing. There should be a time where all students can unwind over there and forget about the stress of being a student. Partying would be a nice option.

13. Does giving us our diplomas months or years after we graduate do any sort of justice? They should be given to us on the day of graduation because of all of the hard work we put in.

John Jay, I really do value everything that you provided me in my time as an undergraduate student. Its not that I hate you but there are somethings you can improve upon because not everyone is perfect as I am pretty sure you know.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

eye roll

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"

Yify

Another day, another Elle Woods comment. Can’t us blondes get through the day without someone harping at us over the typical stereotypes about who we are? I never understood why a person was judged based upon the hair color they were born with, or the hair color they choose to have (unless you dye your hair blue like Kylie Jenner, I’m still trying to understand why that’s a trend). Nevertheless, as it should be assumed, not everyone is the same. Not all blondes like bright colors and Lilly Pulitzer, and not all blondes claim to identify with Marilyn Monroe. I think the best suggestion to give to people before they make such radical claims is to stop judging a book by its cover. Or in this case, stop judging a blonde by her hair color.
