Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson stopped working full-time for WWE sometime in late 2002. His attention had shifted to Hollywood where he became the Scorpion King. He stopped working for WWE all together sometime in 2004. He did come back to WWE in 2008 to induct his father, Rocky Johnson, into the WWE Hall of Fame and he came back again in 2011 to host WrestleMania XXVII in Atlanta and have a couple of matches since then but it's only been a part-time gig.
John Cena stopped working full-time for WWE sometime in the mid-2010s. Granted, he still appears on WWE programming more often than The Rock, but he is now technically a part-timer who is described as a "free agent" on WWE programming. Cena's filmography to this point hasn't been on the same level as The Rock's but it's getting there.
Cena has made appearances in hit films "Trainwreck", "Sisters", "Daddy's Home" and "Daddy's Home 2", and he voiced Ferdinand the bull in the animated film "Ferdinand." Cena has also appeared on multiple talk shows and he has hosted Saturday Night Live.
Not to mention that John Cena is literally a walking and talking meme. Everyone who had the Internet and a Twitter account in the mid-2010s has more than likely seen a John Cena meme at some point. From the "John Cena Prank Call" meme to the "Cena Wins LOL" meme, there's no doubt that Cena is a very meme-able individual.
But, I'm calling it now. Give a it a few more years and John Cena could very well be on the same level of popularity as The Rock. Who knows? Cena and The Rock have faced each other at WrestleMania twice already. Maybe with a couple of more years, there could be a third encounter in the future.
