Growing up in a place where money is really no object, having a job since a young age has taught me a lot. Money was never a problem for my family and my parents have been able to provide me with everything I've ever wanted. But that doesn't mean they didn't teach me the value of hard work, discipline, and responsibility. Which is why, since the age of 16, I have had a new job every year and why I currently have two simultaneously, going on three. Do I need the money? Well I'm fortunate enough to say that I don't. If I wanted, my parents could pay for all of my things, but that's not how the real world works and I'm glad my parents instilled in me certain beliefs that make me a strong, hard working and independent person. These are some things having many jobs has taught me.
1. I don't have to depend on someone else.
Whether parents, a boyfriend, or a spouse in the future, I don't feel the need to look to someone else whenever I may need help financially or when it comes to having my own income. The only person you can truly depend on through anything is yourself. So why not have your own money?
2. Experience is the most important thing you can gain.
Being able to go into another job already knowing the way certain things work makes life easier and your boss that much more impressed.
3. Working so hard when you're young will make a transition to a full-time job easier.
4. No one will be harder on you than your boss when you make a mistake, but they're only doing it to help you.
There have been times I wanted to cry, and even times that I have because it seemed like the mistakes I made were endless and the wrath I took from them was heated, but it only made me a better person in the end.
5. Some days you'll want to call in sick just so you can have a day off but you shouldn't.
6. PATIENCE
Besides gaining experience you will learn patience. Whether with customers, your boss, or even with yourself, you NEED to have patience and you will continue to need to have it for the rest of your life.
7. Friendships at work are important.
You spend so much time their you might as well enjoy it among friends.
Your first job can you teach you a lot. All the others that follow will do the same. It's important to realize even if you don't need the money, extra money can't hurt and the things a job can teach you will forever help you in the rest of your endeavors.
